    Sanke spiral ring very stuck

Finally got it! Thanks everyone. I was tapping the ring to rotate into better position and the screwdriver slipped under the top layer. From there I was able to grab the top with a pliers.

    Sanke spiral ring very stuck

This makes so much sense, thanks. I used a hammer / flat screwdriver to try to tap it around and it is slow going. It rotated about a centimeter over 5 continuous minutes of tapping. The good news is that it popped the broken metal shard out of the gap. I'm planning to keep tapping and hopefully...

    Sanke spiral ring very stuck

I was thinking about that and my one hesitation is that I don't know how deep the spear goes, and how much liquid is left behind when the keg runs dry. I can hear a little slosh in there and from the depressurizing smell there appears to be a Belgian yeast slurry. It would be nice to be able to...

    Sanke spiral ring very stuck

A local bar owner requested that I provide a batch in a 1/6 BBL sanke to be given away at an upcoming event. Rule bending aside, I'm excited. He lent me an empty keg and coupler, and I watched a few videos on how to remove the spiral ring and spear. I fully depressurized, and began trying to...

Can I hook up my ferm. chamber Ranco to heating element for HERMS?

I would if I went that route. BadNews thanks for chiming in as well. The tradeoff is becoming very clear.

Can I hook up my ferm. chamber Ranco to heating element for HERMS?

The idea would be to manually make sure the HLT stays above target temp, and then have the pump trigger to recirculate through the HLT exchanger only when the MLT is below target temp.

Can I hook up my ferm. chamber Ranco to heating element for HERMS?

That clears up so much, thanks! So would there be a major downside to using the Ranco to control the pump, and just manually adjusting water temperature to the right neighborhood?

Can I hook up my ferm. chamber Ranco to heating element for HERMS?

Would it be safe to install an element in a kettle and just plug it into a temperature controller? After digging around here a fair amount I get the sense that to build even a basic eHERMS setup I need a PID wired to a solid state relay. I feel like the answer to my question is no based on...

Any chance this could work for electric mashing?

While I would much prefer a legit eHerms build, I can't help but wonder if this might work as a poor man's setup until I can find time to build. The idea would be to use this simplified sous vide stick with a mesh barrier around the circulating end to prevent grain from getting in...

    heatstick or commercial immersion heater

I am restricted to indoor and want to stovetop full boil as well. I will definitely be insulating, and I am also considering using flyguy's steam mash stepping setup (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/easy-steam-infusion-mash-system-25974/) to my boil kettle. Is there any reason that this is a...
