My first all-grain homebrew: "Dark stuff"

Do you plan on switching over to ales for the hot season? I look forward to the update!

    Thanks!

My first all-grain homebrew: "Dark stuff"

Looks good. Thanks for sharing the images. I'll be interested to hear how it turns out. Particularly, I'm interested to learn what happens to the batch at 20C.

    cold crashing

If you are bottling, is there any advantage to cold crashing before bottling? I have alway cold crashed after carbonation is complete.

    48 hours, no more bubbling

This happened to me on my first brew. You probably are finished with primary fermentation. If you're worried, go ahead and check your SG. Just don't sneeze in it or anything. If the SG is in your target (should be a little below your target since you started low), you can go ahead and rack to...

Are my bottles going to explode?

That seems like a good idea. Maybe I will invest. For the time being, the beer is sitting in the bath tub.

    Hello from South America

Welcome, Stefan! Do you know any other home brewers in Venezuela? Are there local sources of ingredients (barley, hops, etc.)? Good luck!

    Automotive evaporator / wort chiller

At 12 bucks and some change, I think it's worth a try. Keep us posted!

Wow. Props for actually following through on your curiosity!

    Automotive evaporator / wort chiller

Well, I for one (or two, I guess) think it's a neat idea. I'm not sure that there won't be problems, but I think it's ballsy, creative, and could potentially be very cheap and effective. Platitude: "Fortune favors the bold!" Once concern did come to mind: what will you be cooling your wort...

Beer not bubbling 48 hours later!!

It takes yeast a long time to die. They go dormant somewhat quickly in certain conditions, but they can usually be "woken up". Take the SG reading. If it's not in your target, I recommend working through the possible causes listed in John Palmer's book...

Beer not bubbling 48 hours later!!

Agreed. In a recent batch with my dad, we used a bucket and lid that didn't form a good seal. It's not that fermentation didn't start because of the poor seal. Fermentation was proceeding normally, but the airlock didn't bubble because the excess gasses escaped through the crack between the lid...

Are my bottles going to explode?

I accidentally added 1 cup of priming sugar (corn sugar) to my 5 gallon batch! At 70 deg F, I think this comes out to about 3.5 volumes CO2. The bottles have about 3-4cm of head space. Do you think the bottles will explode? If so, is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance!
