    First Mead questions

Hi folks, I am just about ready to start my first batch of Mead. I have found a few receipts that are interesting but most are either for 5 gallons or 1 gallon so my question is how do I scale the receipe? On the 5 gallon, is it simply a matter of multiplying the Honey and Water by however may...

    Racking (newbe question)

Yikes they are a bit on the pricey side, way out of my budget and needs.

    Racking (newbe question)

I was thinking that the long syphon tube reaches the bottom and would draw the lees off first, but either way it seems there would be a small amount of waste.

    Racking (newbe question)

My thought was not to use the lees but rather looking for a simpler way to remove them. Currently I only have the 6.5 gal carboy and I would be syphoning the top into other bottles, my bottles are amber so not great to see in, I also have the original plastic the Cider came in, it is frosted so...

    Adding additional cider

Folks, I started with 5 gal of fresh cider but put it in a 6 1/2 gal carboy, I am thinking there is too much space at the top of the carboy to really give me an accurate idea of what is going on. Since I have all the time to wait and I am in no particular rush I was wondering if adding an...

    First time cider

to: markf This morning 11/20 the bubbles seem to have stopped. That said, I siphoned off the most of the carboy, dumped the bottom inch (although there seemed to be no excessive collection of spent yeast) cleaned, re sanitized and put the siphoned cider back in. Now, I see bubbles again. The...

    Racking (newbe question)

Folks, everything I look at or read syphons off the cider and leaves the lees to be disposed of but as I was sitting contemplating the finished product a question popped in my mind. Why not syphon off the lees from the bottom?

    First time cider

I am waiting on a hydrometer to be delivered, I think the snow may be part of the delay, in any case my primary is bubling at about 1 per 6 seconds but I am not sure when to rack the lees out, do I wait for the bubles to stop or should I just go for it? Comming up on about three weeks now, 5 gal...
