So today I swapped out one of my 5 gal keg stems AND Wa La it fits properly. I now remember that these old AB kegs had a plastic ring/gasket that went under the rubber o-ring, but its lost.
I need to figure out what i'll do for future beers. Maybe I can try and put the 2 o-rings together to...
I really appreciate you taking the time to check that out. I have the seal and the retainer clip. It must be an S type keg. I guess I should buy an S type coupler for an easy fix, or aerate my beer by putting in another keg.
I tried multiple couplers after checking them. Highly unlikely but still possible. I'll check the keg type first and then move toward checking the couplers again.
I will check the keg. Its an old AB Keg. I have 2 of them and I know one of them worked fine but I'm not sure if this is the same one. Good thinking, I'll Check for type -- Do you know where it would say???
I went through C02 crazy fast on this keg. I noticed when I tapped it its loose and spins pretty easily. Then I noticed its leaky and the more I messed with it the more it leaked, UNLESS I put downward pressure on it which slowed or stopped the leak. Also I think the stem(s) is spinning when...
I realize my mistake in saying" blowing off" which in the brewing world actually refers to krausen coming out of the air lock and would mean its kicking ass with a huge count of viable yeasts.
What I really meant and should have said was it was the fermenter in question was simply off-gassing...
Ok, I'm playing it safe -- I pitched a packet of US-05 into the fermenter in question, because thats what yeast I have. This will help my understanding when I taste the final product side-by-side I think.
I am wanting to brew another beer and re-pitch this 1968 yeast cake with this one after I...
You're right, from now on I'll being separately pitching so that it's equal. For some reason I thought it would mix perfectly that way.
I had read that its good to pitch on the cool side and let it ramp up slowly because
1) You don't want yeast to drop much in temp to avoid dormancy.
2)The...
theHaze -- I think you're right, the other one is blowing of CO2 like crazy now. Thanks for calming me down, LOL
GameFace -- This ought to be an interesting science experiment, to see if I notice a taste difference. They'll be going in 2 seperate 5 gal kegs, so we'll see. Thanks for the...
Hi all,
I Brewed an ESB yesterday with 1968. The day before I made a 2L starter from a pack of 1968 ESB yeast.
When the wort was fully chilled(64 F) I went ahead and pitched the yeast into the 11 gallons of wort (1.060). I stirred gently and commenced siphoning the wort into 2 fermentors...
So I tasted the sour and it is very clean and only slightly sour, which is what I was kind of going for and played it safe. It was at 19 hrs when I boiled because I was worried it was going to get too sour for my taste. Upon reflection, I'd let it go another couple hrs if I do it again.
I plan...
Thanks! I can imagine that having eaten TONS of Black currants fresh while growin them. They REALLY wake up your FACE region, if you know what I mean. :cross:
How much did you use for your saison? and how much would you say is the most per gallon with out over-powering?
As a newbie, I have had...
Thanks!! that is the kind of answer I was fishing for. You're obviously having some fun with Black currants! I plan to grow a lot in the next few years, maybe on a commercial scale now that they've been legalized.
Now to start collecting 1 galloners.
Hey I see you do a lot of blending -- I...
Hey guys! my first post here, surprising as many times as I've utilized this forum.
SO -- I'm doing my first sour! I soured the wort using raw pilsner grains, and leaving for 19 hrs and then doing the boil, it was slightly soured and had no detectable off flavors (I used lots of CO2)
MY...
