    Blichmann BrewEasy

Reviews are scarce... Has anyone brewed on the gas version of this system yet?

    Recipe critique

Well this was a miserable failure... I doughed in the quinoa, buckwheat and instant rice @40C, then raised to 70C and held for an hour. Unfortunately, there was no conversion as the SG was 1.005! Any thoughts on where I went wrong?

Ok. I'll knock the bittering hops in half to get it closer to 20 IBUs. Going to brew Thursday. Will mash the quinoa, rice and buckwheat together and then add the sugar to the boil.

    Brugse Zot Belgian Blond

Hey Medic (and anyone else reading!)... Did you ever come up with a recipe for Brugse Zot? I toured the brewery and really enjoyed this beer on a hot afternoon a few weeks ago. I'm been playing around with a recipe and was wondering what you all thought? --- Fool's Blonde Beer Style...

Batch sparge - water calculations advice.

Brewed this yesterday and the batch sparge went so smooth! Skipped the mash-out and sparged with boiling water twice. Ended up with a 73% efficiency and had a great time brewing with a friend. I reached 66% with my previous fly-sparge (which I did poorly) attempt but it was way more stressful...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

I made my first starter yesterday before seeing this thread. My beer is a 1.073 6 gallon batch, so I made a 1.5L starter in a growler to be safe. Anyway, I have been intermittently shaking it when I think of it and just a few minutes ago, I obviously shook it too hard because a huge blast of...

Batch sparge - water calculations advice.

Ok I can see the logic in that. Thanks! So for example under the 1.25 ratio, I mash with ~5gallons, run-off ~3gallons, then sparge twice with ~2.5 gallons each to get ~8 gallons total. And so after my first run-off, the volume left in my mash tun (~2 gallons) will be pretty close to the...

Batch sparge - water calculations advice.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will go with a 1:1 ratio this time. Do you go with 185F for your sparge water? Do you skip the mash-out? The last time I didn't have a large enough pot so I split the wort in to two pots on the stove and lost 2.5 gallons over an hour (and had a steamed up...

    CP's Brew Chart 3.0

Thanks for telling me about this in my other post. Trying it out now and I have a few questions... What is the water to grain ratio it's using? Does it assume a 10% absorption? Is it possible to unprotect the Strike temp because I was planning on 170F?

Batch sparge - water calculations advice.

Hello. I am brewing an IPA using the following grains: 14# 4oz Canadian Two-row Pale 1# 1.637oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (500g) 8oz Toasted Malt (pale malt for 10mins @350F) This will be for a 6-gallon batch. Based on 75% efficiency, I would end up with an OG of 1.073. This will...

Looking for IPA advice - 2nd time all-grainer

Thanks for the feedback on the hops and the irish moss. Does the grain bill look ok? Is that enough toasted malt to make a taste difference or will it be buried by the hops?

Looking for IPA advice - 2nd time all-grainer

Hello everyone. This is my first post but I have been following the site for a while now and have been learning more every day. I've been homebrewing for a couple of years. I started out doing the basic canned kits as per the instructions, then moved on to boiling those kits on the stove and...
