    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

No wickedbeernut, they sent it feee of charge. I had meant to reference the new style gasket sells for $20. If you go on their site and see a gasket for $15, that’s the old style. Incomplete wording on my part.

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

It is the new style. I’m guessing the double V-shape adds room for compression when you tighten lid. But in the meantime less rubber gasket making contact with the lid.

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

I got my new gasket from Spike, after seeing it I can say my original was definitely defective or just the wrong one altogether. New one fits really nice and you don’t have to work to get it in. If there’s a problem I have with Spike it’s the lack of information, and what information there is...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

An interesting experience using White Labs WLP037 Yorkshire Square yeast. They’d recently released this year’s batch, I’d never used before so jumped on the chance. Mostly I’ve used Wyeast’s 1469, and genuinely love it. But 037 is impressive. I had slated a FG around 1.015. I reached that 4 days...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I have had two of my most recent batches, where my FG was lower than the software predicted. In one instance I was using Bell’s Yeast from Imperial. That is the most aggressive yeast I have ever used. The other one I was using was White labs WLP 007. I was surprised at how low that went, at...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

There was no invoice with the email telling me “my order” has shipped. With the acknowledgment from Mike that my gasket appeared defective, it seems they were replacing free of charge.

What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

Shortest History of Europe & Louis Armstrong’s Satchmo auto bio of his Storyville era days in Nola. I highly recommend the Europe book, it explains how so many customs and cultural norms in Western society (as far back as Ancient Greece) came into being, and how they effect our lives to this...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

J Good advice YeastFeast. I have definitely cranked beyond what felt comfortable with the clamp, trying to get the 1/4” gap. Then had a few batches where I was 3/8”ish and held the pressure just fine. Humidity? Pressure? So many variables. Hopefully the new gasket eliminates my problem. I’ll...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

3 days after emailing Spike I got an email response. I’d been hoping for a phone call, but oh well, e-mail works. Mike, from “customer experience” sent a very short reply stating he was sorry to hear of my problem. After viewing the photo I attached, I assume, he agreed I had a defective part...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

Hello Yesfan. The clock method worked when I first got the unit but last week was totally useless. I guess that points to the fact the gasket has stretched or something like that. Once in place I never had a problem. I’ve been able to hold 15lbs with no problem. I do wonder if cranking the band...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

I’m hoping they respond to my email. They did send an acknowledgment it was received. I think they were having phone problems last week. I could never get more than one ring in before the call would disconnect. If they do respond I will order the new style gasket. Thanks for that suggestion...

    Spike CF10 fermenter lid gasket

I have a Spike CF10 fermenter with an issue that has plagued me from the start. I have a gasket for the CF10 lid, that will no longer fit in the groove. It has always had too much material which causes it to bow and pop out of the lid as I put it in after cleaning and sanitizing, that's been an...

    Fullers ESB & Strong Bitters

The drifting certainly makes sense. Do places like WYeast and White labs occasionally do a new, fresh harvest/culture for any of their yeasts?

    Fullers ESB & Strong Bitters

Are most of you convinced the commercially available “Fullers” yeasts aren’t cultured from Fullers? Perhaps to far removed from the original? I have gotten some good British character from the Imperial and WYeast versions. I’ve also had good British flavor from 1469 West Yorkshire. I would agree...

    Fullers ESB & Strong Bitters

Great tip THC13. I’ve seen the Wild About Hops website a while back but I’ll check out that book. Sounds like a must have for OCD peeps like myself
