Dry Hopping and Cold Crashing - simultaneous?

No, I just heard to get close to freezing. 34 for 4 works for me! But now you have me wondering about cold crashing and using priming sugar...

Dry Hopping and Cold Crashing - simultaneous?

How long to cold crash? Thats a good question. I was thinking 2 days, but I can wait 4 if that might produce a better beer. Having never cold crashed, I should also ask - is that simply turning the temp down and holding? 38 degrees? Yes, the fermenter is awesome! Well worth the money if you...

Dry Hopping and Cold Crashing - simultaneous?

Thanks for the responses. I'm using a stainless fermenter (Deep Woods Cavern), with no secondary. I'm bottling after the cold crash.

Dry Hopping and Cold Crashing - simultaneous?

I'm brewing an APA in which I'm dry hopping (which I haven't done much) and cold crashing (which I've never done before). The recipe says to ferment for 14 days and dry hop for 5. So is that 19 days total, or do I start the dry hopping at 9 days? If I also want to cold crash for a couple days...

Going for it - Black IPA

OP said he was told it could take 8 hours - is that because it was a Black IPA?

Going for it - Black IPA

I'd love to try a Black IPA. I didn't know that it took longer than a regular IPA - why is that?

    Interesting bottle bomb

No pics of the mess. Several weeks ago I smelled beer in the basement but couldn't find it. It apparently leaked into the bottom of my beer crate (where most of it was soaked up) and then onto the floor behind the crates. By the time I found the bottle, the beer had already dried up - crazy!

    Interesting bottle bomb

So I made an APA and bottled it a couple of months ago. In hindsight, I realized that I was over 1 gallon short on my 5 g batch (clue #1), but I made no adjustment to the carbonation. I opened 1 or 2 bottles and they foamed for 10 minutes straight (clue #2), and even when I poured it gently...

I love my glass carboys but.....

I got mine from Brewers Hardware (Part # TWNS8, $10.95). And, yes, it does fit the probe from my STC-1000. After I got the thermowell, I realized that I needed to add a stainless nut in order to tighten it properly - but I can't remember where I got that (LHBS?).

    $90 is a steal!

    Deep woods fermentor

Exactly. Yes, it is expensive (about $135), but I personally think its worth it. Put it this way, I've blown a lot more than $135 on crap I now regret - but this stainless fermenter is one item I will always use. I don't boil in it (although you could), mainly because I want to separate the...

    Deep woods fermentor

+1 I'm singing their praises on another thread right now. Here's mine:

I love my glass carboys but.....

No, it came with both ports, and the gasketed-hole in the lid for the airlock. They also provide two stainless steel plugs so you can cover one or both of the ports. The valve is an extra $20, but SO worth it (it comes apart for cleaning with a simple allen wrench). The other thing is that...

+1 - LOVE the Deep Woods Cavern.

    Hydrometer calibration changing over time?

Good point. Although I wonder if something changed with my distilled water? I bought it and used it for the first calibration several months ago, then stored some of it in a grolsch bottle. Could the distilled water properties have changed?
