    Stuck and Stumped

    HILARIOUS!!

    Stuck and Stumped

You're a life saver!! I came up with about 8.9% based on your conversion factors that you provided...that seems more in the ballpark. I'll get another hydrometer to finalize, maybe this one will stay in one piece for more than a few months. Thanks so much for the information, I'm relieved and...

    Stuck and Stumped

Brewers- I could use your help here, I've been running into dead ends lately with much higher than expected final gravity. A month ago I brewed an AG imperial brown on a grainfather. Pretty typical malt bill with a pound each of DME and brown sugar at the end of the boil, mashed at 155, mashed...

    Step Mash Mystery

@cshamilton- Thanks for your reply, these are all good points. I did the protease rest to break down the oats a little better (supposedly). I think the temps were right on as it was registering 212 at the boil. The hydrometer is good, I just had two very successful batches this month. Lastly...

    Step Mash Mystery

Folks- I've run in to a bit of a mystery here and I could use your help! I set out to brew a 5.5 gal tripel today and planned a step mash using the Grainfather system. This was my third attempt using it and I had great success with my first two single mash brews (I'm a fairly experienced...

    Consistenly High FG

@gavinc & qhrumphf: I'll look into those, thanks

    Consistenly High FG

@thwemerkle: I have an aerated transfer tube that usually helps add some O2 in from kettle to fermenter once it's cooled. It hasn't been a typical problem In the past. Good point though, it's often overlooked. Thanks

    Consistently High FG (All Grain)

    @Natdavis: Will do, thanks

    Consistenly High FG

I'll double check my usual thermometer. It's been pretty good compared to the digital which was consistently several degrees off. Thanks for the advice

    Consistenly High FG

Great advice, thanks a million. I'll double check the thermometer and try dropping the mash temp a bit.

    Consistently High FG (All Grain)

    Perfect, thanks. Excellent advice

    Consistenly High FG

Thanks for your reply. I had a typo there, it was 1.014 vice 1.04. I haven't checked the ph in the mash in a while, but have had pretty reliable results with complete fermentation otherwise. I used a digital thermometer twice, but went back to my lab thermometer for this last one. I've taken my...

    Consistently High FG (All Grain)

Thanks all. To clarify, I mistyped: it was 1.014, not 1.04. I use a pretty reputable scientific thermometer that's cumbersome, but reliable. I tried a digital one for a bit, but wasn't crazy about the results....I haven't tried a refractometer yet. I may try to lower the temp for the next batch...

    Consistenly High FG

Brewers- (Damn, I just saw I spelled "consistently" wrong in the title). I'm a little stumped here, I'll defer to the experts on this. My last three AG batches have finished with uncharacteristically high FG. I'm pretty experienced and haven't run into this problem before. All 3 were in the...
