Well, dumb-ass here finally got it sorted. After correcting to the appropriate volume units (thanks, RaySmithTX) and re-entering the data (thanks, Ruint) I got the OG lined up to 1.107 with extract.
As for the IBU - well that was my rookie mistake and forgetting the effect of high gravity wort...
Could just be I'm a total noob on this, but I'm trying to replicate a Breiss recipe (One Mighty Fine Barleywine) and I just cannot get the numbers to match.
Basic outline is:
Add 3G to the kettle, bring to 152F & steep 2 lb of grains for 30 mins
Remove grains, add 12lb of Light...
Thanks for the info - though I feel my brain is dribbling out my ears (though that could be the applejack, not the math). Interesting how I could increase the hardness to match the milliequivalents of solute on both and get the numbers down a bit further.
If I wanted to keep it simple - what...
Hi all,
Is there a spreadsheet or set of calculations that can tell me what happens to my water numbers if I boil the water to precip out some of the hardness?
Boiling is the only water treatment I've done so far; boil up several gallons the day before brew day, leave overnight, and then...
I'm in Ridgefield and have used Epic on Federal Road in Brookfield (about 1.5m north of Costco) http://www.epichomebrew.com/ as my LHBS.
Decent enough range of hardware from pots to books to burners to kegging and plenty of ingredients. They're really good at helping you put ingredients...
Thanks @day_trippr - local store has BKF in so will grab that tomorrow, clean Sunday and brew next week.
Not so much bling as too many surfaces that seem to be magnets for grubby, chocolate-smeared paws...
I'm waiting on a couple of small stainless pots and I want to clean them before use (since they could still have burrs or machine oil etc.) and thought I may as well passivate them at the same time.
I'm thinking of using Bar Keepers Friend (as I can use it elsewhere to clean around the house)...
I had a trawl but I can only find the parts list/numbers here:
web.archive.org/../how-to-build-a-mash-tun-from-a-cooler-detailed-parts-list
:(
Hope it helps.
You can also check out FlyGuy's Mash Tun Conversion which has parts and pics.
This looks like a good rule of thumb to ensure I get enough water to start with. What temperature do you sparge at - same as the mash, or aim for 170 to set the wort?
