    Stuck fermentation prevention

Another follow up: adding glucoamylase did turn it into a very dry IPA - but it became a bit thin and was all thiols. It did end up somewhat drinkable

    Stuck fermentation prevention

I FIGURED IT OUT! I ended up dumping this batch after the US05 did nothing to help - then I made an entirely different recipe and the same thing happened. This allowed me to rule out a lot of things so I had to check the temperature readings on my new clawhammer - and it turns out I was mashing...

    Stuck fermentation prevention

I’m going to double check the gravity when I officially dump it to make sure it’s not the tilt. I added nearly a full pack of US 05 to it after 24 hours of being stuck, though that’s where it oxidized. My initial yeast pitch was omega Kolsch 2, which has been a little iffy in the past once...

    Stuck fermentation prevention

I did! But apparently not well enough? I gave it a few hour soak in pbw and tans it through the whole system for a few minutes, then I flushed it with water. Still had weird gunk in it though

    Stuck fermentation prevention

Hey everyone, It finally happened! Two years in and I am about to dump my first batch and I’d love to prevent this from happening again. If anyone has tips on what to change I’d love to hear them. This was a kolsch 5 gallon batch, first ever on my new claw hammer system. 1.050 OG with a tilt...

    Stalled fermentation

It’s a cal common yeast so it’s 58-68 target temp. As far as the temp variation, when I shake the fermenter around the hydrometer reading drops by a few degrees.

    Stalled fermentation

I don’t have any activity in the airlock and my tilt hydrometer is staying stable unfortunately.

    Stalled fermentation

Hey everyone, I am running into an issue on my last two brews and I am wondering if anyone has any guidance. I have recently made two beers that required getting the wort to lower temperatures than I normally do (I usually pitch at around 70F, as cool as it gets in my sink of ice and with my...

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

I know these things get lost in the ether sometimes but I have been trolling homebrew talk for my current batch of beer and find myself thinking - “I wonder how all of these ‘did I ruin my beer’ posts turn out?” So a quick update if anyone ever finds this useful. beer was solid out of the...

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

Good to know! I actually just got a new ale pail before my last batch and have been really diligent about using PBW and sanitizing as soon as I transfer to the keg.

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

Thanks for all of the replies! This has definitely quelled my anxiety. I’m normally not quite as concerned, but I do love a Pliny and want the side by side to go well. Plus, the hops in this recipe and the two pouches of yeast brought the cost over $100 just for this batch. I’d be more...

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

My main concern is that I will have hop water with no body to it if the FG goes too low. Seems to be holding at 1.009, which is within the style guidelines for double IPAs. Readings that made me feel a bit better!

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

Thanks for the feedback! I even went off recipe from the notes from the home brew shop and mashed higher than they recommended (they had the mash temp at 148 and I bumped it to 150)

First ever “Is my beer ruined” post

Hey everyone, As the title says, this is my first “did I just ruin my beer” post. I am making a Pliny the Elder clone recipe in an attempt to do a side by side taste test (going out to northern CA in a few weeks and will bring some home with me). I used the recipe from the local home brew...

    Best kegerator?

Hey everyone, I am looking to buy a kegerator and wanted to know the best one to use straight out of the box. I don’t really have the time or energy to do a conversion from a mini fridge but also don’t want buyers remorse on a $1000ish purchase.
