    Switch to round cooler?

What a great idea! I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip! :mug:

    Switch to round cooler?

I've done 3 AG brews so far, all batch sparged, and the SS braid is already abused. It's compacted in two or three different spots, and still tends to float up when stirring the mash, and I have the unattached end weighed down with a brass cap. So, these are also motivations for me to consider a...

    Switch to round cooler?

I have a 10 gallon Gott beverage cooler waiting to get converted into a MLT. I've been having problems with inconsistent runoff volumes as well, so I'll let you know if I have any improvements with the round cooler. I'm debating between SS braid, manifold, or false bottom for the round...

    3rd AG today...I went backwards

Man, I think I was getting a little too confident in my abilities. My first AG batch went pretty well, considering it was the first time. My 2nd batch was almost flawless. This time, well... First of all, I was brewing a hefeweizen, and was going for a lighter body, so decided to mash at...

    My Ugly Pre-Chiller

With warm tap water, I don't think a bigger immersion chiller would do much good. A prechiller gets the tap water to a colder termperature to make his existing immersion chiller perform more efficiently. I bought an IC, but I didn't like how it took about 1/2 hour to chill to pitching temps...

Moving up to a 10 gallon batch tomorrow

Well, for pellet hops, it's absolutely useless. The screen gets clogged almost instantly. I've since gone to using a muslin bag with pellet hops. I have heard that it works decent with whole hops, however. As for break material, it passes right through the screen. I'm trying to figure out a...

    Base grain fight - ON!

Put me in the Maris Otter camp. I recently brewed an IPA with Golden Promise, which is still conditioning, but from what I sampled...WOW. The early returns are encouraging.

    White tentacles = infection?

I'm 99% positive that's just yeast in your picture. I wouldn't be worried at all. I've seen that with every brew I've done.

Would anyone think I was crazy if...

I was actually thinking of going from my immersion chiller to a CFC, and using my current IC as a pre-chiller. The only reason I'm holding back is because of concerns about cleaning and sanitizing the CFC properly. Seems like a real PITA. Oh, and I'd definitely need to get some sort of...

    All grain brewing needs?

Others have had success with 28 quart pots, but that's really pushing it. Like I said, the bigger you can find, the better. As for aluminum, that's the debate that never ends: aluminum vs. stainless steel. I went with SS, just to be on the safe side, but others have been very happy with using...

    All grain brewing needs?

I had a boilover making a 5.5 gallon batch in a 15.5 gallon keggle. Definitely get the biggest pot you can find and/or afford. I'd imagine doing 5 gallon batches in a 7 gallon pot would be very, very problematic.

First AG and fruit none-the-less...please help if you can.

Yep. If you're really concerned about the sanitation of your blueberries, you could always go with puree. These purees are completely sterile: http://www.northernbrewer.com/beer-flavorings.html I'd imagine you could get blueberry puree for cheaper than Northern Brewer sells it if you...

    pickleing (sp)???

Is my first AG batch poisonous, now? :cross: I bottled it last Sunday, and it tasted pretty damned good, I thought. I didn't detect any metallic tastes, or anything else out of the ordinary. Just a good, uncarbonated ESB. I did clean the wort chiller with soap and water, and then scrubbed it...

    Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA...

Ok, I'll take you to task, since nobody else is...I don't know how anybody can say the 60 minute is better than the 90 minute! :D Don't get me wrong, the 60 minute is outstanding, but the 90 minute is mind-altering, IMO. I absolutely love that stuff, and I'm afraid I'll go bankrupt if I don't...
