    Thanks! You can't see it but I cut about half as many facing down as are facing up. If it comes down to it I could always flip it very easily.

    1/4" Ball valve for Mash Tun

    Thanks for the advice. I went out today and purchased the fittings for and built my 10 gallon standard issue mash tun using an igloo cooler and 1/2" fittings and ball valve. I'm glad I got the 1/2", it was slow as heck to drain my leak test water, I'd hate for it to be even slower with my 1/4"...

    It just occurred to me I could put a fitting in the lid(where my HLT will connect eventually) and when it's time to get that last couple ounces of wort out put a little compressed air in and pump out the last little bit into my kettle.

    I read a lot of this thread and looked on craigslist for 10 gallon water coolers to no avail. Purchased one for 45$ shipped from amazon. I got an orange Igloo. I then went to Ace hardware and got a 1/2" ball valve, a 1 1/2" nipple, a 3/8" hose barb, one male, one female, and 4x 3/4"...

    So I've been extract brewing and am making the switch to all grain. I've search the forum briefly, and read a TON of pages on the homemade Mash Tun thread. I acquired 2 1/4" high quality stainless steel ball valves from my work from an outdated system, they were given to me not stolen...
