    Chocolate Grain Question

While I'm making a starter for my pumpkin ale, thought I'd post a quick pic of the beer. I'm really happy with the way it came out and it's been a real hit so far. Will be brewing this again

    Chocolate Grain Question

Well, the color came out perfect. Not a hint of darkness at all and I probably could have gotten away w/ the 2 oz instead of 1. Came in w/ an OG of 1.064 (shooting for 1.066) so I'm glad I made a starter, even one that may have been a little too small by calculation standards. I did get to...

    Chocolate Grain Question

Tomorrow's brew day and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I made my first starter Wednesday night after drinking a few pints of imperial stout. Pulled it off the stir plate this morning and threw it in the fridge. Mr.malty recommended a 2L starter and mine came out to just over...

    Chocolate Grain Question

Thanks for the inputs guys. The LHBS was pretty limited today so that's why I went w/ the perle hops. That was the only thing they had. I figured w/ the lack of the called grain and hops bill, it would still make a fairly decent beer, so I'm looking forward to going through w/ it and brewing...

    Chocolate Grain Question

I decided to try and brew a California Common this weekend and used the recipe from the Brewing Classic Styles book by Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer. Went to my LHBS to pick up the grain and ran into an issue. The recipe called for 2 oz of pale chocolate malt (200 lovibond), but all they...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that tomorrow when I put my carboy in there. My shanks came in the other day and I finally got them installed and moved the keezer into the living room. Just have to get a drip tray, run my beer and air lines and it will be all finished. Here's a shot w/...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Just checked the OFS and it's set at 0. Since I didn't have anything in it yet, I had the probe just hanging inside. When I came home this morning and looked at it again, it was really close to the side wall and was probably getting an inaccurate reading. So I put a corny keg in and ran the...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

I thought so too until now lol. Went out and checked the temp before heading up to bed, power's off to the freezer and the temp was at 57 and holding. Not sure why it would go that low when it was set to 68 and the diF set at 3, but I'm assuming it's because I have the ASd set at 10 and it...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Thanks for the feedback guys. I originally had everything set to the factory settings with the exception of the SP. Just got home and programed the ASd to 10, then couldn't get it to start working. Then after doing some research and seeing others with similar issues, I set the ASd back to 1...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Good to know. It was running fine and when I came back an hour later the power was off on the freezer and wouldn't kick back on (it was set for 69 degrees and holding at 63). That's when I unplugged it and plugged just the freezer in and the compressor kicked right on along with the power light...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Looking good! Have you hooked yours up to a temperature control unit yet? Hooked mine up to a Johnson digital control unit today and it worked like a charm. After a few hours though I noticed that while it was holding the temps I wanted, the power light was off. I unplugged it from the...

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Haha, if you ask my wife, she'd say yes because of all the money I've dropped on my kit in the last few days. Unfortunately I'm working all this weekend, but I've got my first 2 brews scheduled for Tuesday :ban:

Back in the brew game- Keezer build

Due to being stationed overseas for a few years, I had to give up brewing. But now that I'm back, I've decided to get back into it and finally decided to build a keezer while I'm waiting for my equipment to get in. I picked up a 6.8 cu ft chest freezer from Home Depot on Saturday for $158 and...

Continuous Growing Sludgepile in Pumpkin Ale 2ary

I used around 4-5 pounds of pumpkin in the mash, let it sit in the primary for a little over 4 weeks and like jeremyx, I kept the tip of the want above the cake, and had crystal clear beer going into the keg.

How Much Do You Boil Off?

I guess I should have mentioned that I have a 48 qt pot, so the surface area is pretty big. The tap water is fine to drink, and goes through a brita filter. I know it doesn't remove the clorine, but you cannot smell it, nor taste it. As of this morning, it's still chugging along pretty nicely...
