    Used Boil Pot

Basically, if you clean it out properly, scrub it down, it should be fine. If you are worried, boil water in it for a while. Between the scrubbing and the water and bleach it should be fine. BTW, I would recommend Barkeeper's Friend for scrubbing. Its a powder like Comet, you can get...

Fermtech Autosiphon - Broke it, can I repair it?

They make replacements for the interior cane, most homebrew supply stores carry them. If you get some cip film and coat the end of the cane, it makes it much easier to remove the hose, eliminating problem of breaking the cane. Plus, cip film is odorless and tasteless. Gedvondur

Upper-Midwesterners - Summit ESB? how to nab that unique hop flavor?

I have had the Summit ESB a couple of times. Good beer. I would write Summit and ask them what hops they use. Most smaller breweries will give that up. As to hop schedules, I don't subscribe to the high-multiple addition method (dry hopping excluded.) Bitter at 60, Flavor at 15 and...

Left over ingredient brew - what yeast?

Scotty_G and I have made a couple of these "refrigerator velcro" beers with leftover ingredients. They've turned out pretty good so far. Our primary concern for these beers, since they generally don't fit a style is to not invest much money into them. These cleanup beers should be simple...

    Pectic enzyme in a braggot

You could always add gelatin to the secondary, that would help. Cold crashing it would help as well. Just to be warned, meads usually need more like 12-24 months to age. You could also filter before bottling. Gedvondur

    Fourth of July Brew

Fourth of July is a big holiday, so I say brew big! Make a big Golden Triple. Gedvondur

can you get a nitrogen tank/regulator filled with co2?

While I can't say I have ever tried to do that, I seriously doubt the local gas supply shop will do that. Most shops simply swap out cylinders, rather than refill. I suggest you call your local gas supply and ask them. Gedvondur

Heating Bottles in Oven to Sterilize.

Heh, I find this kind of wistful retro-ism to be both folksy and deceiving. Reverence for the past can be taken too far, and pleas for simplicity are usually the culprit. Things always seem easier when you don't understand what is going on. We all yearn for the days when things seemed...

Battle Royale: AHS vs Midwest vs NB vs BMW

I have to say that I think that we are actually in good shape to have so many good online vendors. I have ordered from Midwest, Northern Brewer, Austin Home Brew and B3. BMW is only a recent discovery for me, so I haven't ordered from there yet, but I probably will at some point. I think...

    beer looks like mud

Could be a scorching issue with the wort. If there are no particulates in the beer and everything else is the same, it seems likely to me that you scorched it on the turkey fryer. The real question is, does it taste all right? Gedvondur

Ever brewed a good beer you just don't like?

There have been a few homebrews that we did that I didn't like. For me, its generally a style problem. Its almost a relief when I realize that its not actually a problem with the beer or just the brewing process, just an issue with the style. Gedvondur

    All time cheapest ingredients

Can't save money making your own beer. Go buy cheap beer on sale. You simply cannot achieve the economy of scale that BMC can. Gedvondur

    Chelada recipe

Hmmm....well that's probably WAY too much lime concentrate. You want a hint of lime, not a punch in the face with it. The sugar part won't matter if you don't use too much lime. Honestly, I'm not sure how much lime it takes to make a Chelada style beer. I think you would be better off...

    WLP 568 Attenuation Problem!

Actually I had heard that Saison yeasts do tend to get stuck. I would cite the reference but I am having difficulty remembering where I saw that. I'm not sure if a bigger starter may or may not help. :drunk:
