Undercounter Fridge with 3 five gallon kegs

If you have Cornelius Spartan Kegs and you can find a good deal on a U-Line undercounter fridge, you can fit 3 five gallon kegs in it. The Spartan kegs have a single handle that is easy to remove. Without the handle, one will fit at an angle on the hump in the back of the fridge and 2 more fit...

    Schrader (Tire) Valve on Keg

I have a black liquid QD with a pressure gauge attached to it that I put on the "out" side of a corny when I am pressure testing kegs. That way I can use a gray gas QD attached to my air compressor instead of wasting CO2. Works great! Basically it is a Black QD connected to a piece of gas...

    MT temp variations

Thanks. Sounds great. I'll give that a try next time.

    MT temp variations

Great questions, I should have thought to give this info too. The probe that controls the temp is located where the wort exits the HEX coil. It is mounted in a "T" fitting. Then a hose attaches to that fitting and brings the wort back up to the MT. The HLT is being stirred the whole time by an...

    MT temp variations

Thinking about it more, I have a new question. Do people who use HERMS setups stir their mash periodically during the Mash? I didn't think it was necessary, but maybe that is the only way to avoid temperature stratification. Anyone?

    MT temp variations

Recently had the maiden voyage with our new system. Electric HLT with HERMS. Propane fired BK. My question is this. We did a protein rest at 122 that went beautifully after getting the strike water temp exactly where it needed to be with the HERMS. Then the recipe called for ramping to 154...

    VTB vs. FTB for PID

Yeah, after checking into it a little more, I realized that it is specific to the Watlow PID that I am using. With the FTB, it turns the output on and off every three seconds, but with the VTB it turns it on and off every three electrical cycles (I even have to tell it if my service is 50 or 60 Hz).

    VTB vs. FTB for PID

Has anyone compared the advantages of setting your PID to use VTB(variable time based) vs. FTB(fixed time based) control? Thanks.

    Need Temp controller for Lagering?

Right now my Kolsch is Lagering at 40F in the fridge with the JC temp controller hooked up to it. It still has 3 weeks to go. What I would like to do is unhook the temp controller this weekend and let the fridge's internal thermostat hold the temp at approximately 40F so I can use the temp...

    Grind Flaked Oats?

Thanks.... that's exactly what I wanted to hear!

    Grind Flaked Oats?

I'm making my first all grain oatmeal stout. I would like to bring the flaked oats home from my LHBS and toast it before I use it, but I don't have a mill at home. Do I need to mill the flaked oats, or will it convert without grinding? Thanks.

Active Secondary - is this ok?

Do NOT dump it down the sink. It is going to be fine. Fermentation is what causes CO2 bubbles. Wait until it stops bubbling, check your final gravity, wait for it to clear and bottle it.
