Dismantling a RLBS (was EWL) Beer Engine - Help needed!

The shame is that the one that gave me so much trouble WAS a „refurbished“ one off eBay. I wish you luck. I sincerely do!

Dismantling a RLBS (was EWL) Beer Engine - Help needed!

You are propably right, but at this point I am not willing to invest even more money in a heatgun and plier wrench. I have spent enough on the „refurbished“ engine so far. Very disappointed with the company, to be honest. They didn‘t even answer my email when I asked them for help…

Dismantling a RLBS (was EWL) Beer Engine - Help needed!

I gave up on it. I was not able to unscrew the cylinder, no matter what I tried. I even brought the thing to a neighbour who is a well trained and well equiped workman. He tried a few tricks and came to the coclusion that the cylinder not only was screwed tightly but also glued together in some...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I have not brewed with it yet. Yeast propagation worked like a treat though. We will see how it goes.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Exactly. I was travelling with cabin luggage only. Only 100mil bottles of liquid were allowed. So I brought some small bottles filled with StarSan to the UK and returned with the yeast I was after.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

And that is exactly what I did. I bought two bottles of Harvey‘s Imperial Stout and brought the yeast sediment home in my sterilized „shampoo flasks“. Made a small starter with it, built it up over a couple of days and - voilà - was able to harvest approx. a pint of beautiful yeast slurry. I am...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I am currently in England for a few days and have the following (maybe stupid) question: Is it possible to use good quality cask ale to start a yeast culture? I am prepared to bring home 100mil of cask ale in sanitized and sterilized containers, originally intended for shampoo etc. I have no...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I'm afraid I do not know how to do the maths in order to archieve this. Probably the best idea would be to brew it as is for the first time, just like Miraculix suggested.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Nice one, Erik! And now for something completely different. I have been planning to brew a low alcohol light ale in the tradition of table ales, dinner ales or even family ales for some time now. My aim is to brew a tasty ale that I can enjoy with lunch at the vicarage while still being able...

Dismantling a RLBS (was EWL) Beer Engine - Help needed!

I have now detached the piston from the handle. You are right, the top and bottom part of the jacket are supposed to be unscrewed from the middle bit. Since they don’t move, I will try using a tool made for changing oil filters on motor engines as soon as I get my hands on one. This was a tip I...

Dismantling a RLBS (was EWL) Beer Engine - Help needed!

Quite some time ago, I bought a "fully refurbished" beer engine from RLBS. It turned out that the engine was not refurbished at all and the beer pumped through it came out with a disgusting moldy smell and taste. Pumping through several liters of beer line cleaning liquid (as recommended by...
