Here's how it SHOULD work in a correctly wired house...
Wires are installed in the house in a gauge that matches the expected load on the circuit, then a breaker is installed that matches the safe load cutoff for that circuit so that if more current than expected is drawn then the breaker trips...

Seems like the hops would be roughly the equivalent of the pre-fermented beer, though I haven't looked into hop chem as much as the rest of the brewing process, good point.
