    bomber headspace

That should make it easy then. Planning a barleywine, and I'd like to bottle in some 22 ouncers. Any source for moderately priced beer in this size? Also, will regular caps fit the wider necked ones (29mm i think)?

    bomber headspace

How much head space do I need to leave in bomber bottles? Same as the 12 oz bottles or a bit more?

    AHS partial mash kits

I did see Deathbrewers thread. He did an excellent job. I just couldn't find some specifics e.g., water to grain ratio. Is there any benefit in adding some amylase extract to the mini-mash water to guarantee starch conversion?

    AHS partial mash kits

I think I'm going to go ahead and try it then. It seems simple enough and I watch my kettle closely enough that I should be able to get away with my 4 gal pot. Though, SWMBO thinks we should "slow down and try a couple more extract kits." You think if I tell her they're all specialty grains like...

    AHS partial mash kits

For my second beer, I'd really like to do a partial mash. I'm particularly looking at AHS's partial mash kits. I've only done an extract thus far and have only a 4 gallon pot for my boil. I'm wondering what is the minimum of equipment required for a partial mash and what is the grain to water...

    So I finally had Pliny!!!

Never tasted it, but when I do I would like it to be a "blind" tasting: poured in an unlabeled glass with a couple other world class IPAs. Then, I'd like to know if I could identify it as the best IPA I've ever had. Every review I've read declares it as world class, though I wonder how many...

Beer Stats: what are these units?

I'm looking at a bottle of Chinookie IPA from Full Pint Brewing Company and they have the following "Beer Nerd Stats" listed: O.G. 15.1 I.B.U. 103.1 °L 9.8 I know OG is original gravity, but what scale is being used here? I have no idea what °L 9.8 could be. Any ideas? BTW, it's a darn...

Another reason to brew your own...

Well, I wish I had your opinions before I bought it. I tried all the varieties last night and none were that great. I won't be buying it again. The consumer affairs rep got back to me this morning and offered to send me a t-shirt.

    A disapointing 6 pack.

:off: Breez7, just saw your blog. I'm from Slippery Rock and you gotta stop by North Country Brewing Co., if you haven't already. Sean, one of the brewers at Full Pint, is the head brewer there. They normally have ~12 beers on tap, all of them excellent. The building and woodwork are amazing...

Another reason to brew your own...

Yeah, yeah. I'm suffering with a wing capper. How does a bench capper work on twist offs: more downward pressure?

The real kicker is that the caps are twist off. I can't even save the bottles!!

Another reason to brew your own...

is that you'll never find broken glass in the bottom of your cases. I'm still waiting for my first batch to ferment and I need bottles, so I figured I'd pick up a 12 pack of something I've never tried. I found a variety of Dundee (Rochester, NY) at my local grocery and figured I'd give it a...
