    Will spice age out?

I have mine in a keg and plan on transferring to 22 oz flip tops so I can cellar them for a while. Should be cool to open one up every few months and see how it changes.

    Will spice age out?

Hey all I brewed pumpkin stout last month, I added more spices than I normally do in a pumpkin ale. I was concerned that they wouldn't hold up against the strong toasty and coffee flavors of the stout. Well, of course I added too much! I like my pumpkin beers to have a very subtle pumpkin...

Cool to keg to bottle to storing

Hey everyone Question about bottling and aging. I always keg my beers, first I crash cool then keg and carb at serving temp. I also occasionally bottle some beers from my keg to take to parties etc. typically when I bottle from the keg I keep the bottles at serving temp. Anyway I just...

Working on a recipe designer / batch manager for Android - who's interested?

I bought the app mentioned above and am not impressed. It doesn't allow you to compose full recipes with types of grain, hops, adjunct, ect. It only has the style of beer, gravity estimates, batch size and some notes. I would love an app that is like beersmith, where I can develop a full recipe...

    Ball valve and thermometer singeing.

No the flames aren't coming over the side, as soon as I noticed what was goin on I turned the heat down. just the rubber sleeve over the ball valve handle is spontaniously catchin on fire, not that big of a deal but annoying. I'm just frusterated, I dont think I'm using excessive heat, the last...

    Ball valve and thermometer singeing.

Hey all, I bought a couple 10 gallon Mega pots from NB and had them drill holes for the valve and thermo. After a couple of brews I have been singeing the valve and thermometers. Has anyone else had this problem? I assumed this wouldnt happen since NB drilled the holes for me. I am using a banjo...

    Yeast Storage

Ok quick question, my LHBS doesnt refrigerate their dry yeast (or hop pellets for that matter). Is this a big deal? according to the Fermentis website the yeast should be stored below 50F. I'm a little concerned and need some input. Thanks all.

    Direct Heat Mashing

I use direct heat, I have a 10 gallon MegaPot that I mash in. I have never had a problem with scorched grain. I do not have the heat on constantly, I reach stike temp, dough in then turn off the heat and wrap the pot in a blanket or sleeping bag. I only lose a couple degrees in a half hour, then...

    Pumpkin Batch Prep. Question

Fermenting in a pumpkin is an awesome idea! I've never heard of that before. Im gonna brew my pumpkin ale in a week or so and will try this. I think I will get my regular 6.5 gallons for the boil, to ferment in a carboy. then run off some more to make a mini 1 gallon batch and use this for the...

    Brown Ale Critique

I was thinking or roasting a pound of pale malt a day before and using that to bring out some more flavors. Also I unfotunately cant get willamette or Crystal 60L at my LHBS, I can get fuggle, NB, hallertau, cascade, and I forget what others. For crystal malt I can get 40L or 120L. Im gonna go...
