    Greek Mythology Themed Beers

:mug: It's rare that I can combine my degree in classics and homebrewing ;) That's a really good idea for Prometheus. What about Hades and Poseidon, the brothers of Zeus? Hades, as the lord of the shades, could be a nice light, but black, dry stout. Poseidon...hmmm...maybe a dark, malty...

    Greek Mythology Themed Beers

Well, Demeter is Zeus's sister. And Heracles is Zeus's son, too. The Heracles one should be a strong, rustic ale. He was the hero for the common, country man. A good farmhouse? For Apollo and Artemis, it would be cool if you could come up with a pair of similar recipes (they're...

When a Great Efficiency Rating isn't a Good thing

I'd think the same, but I'd like to hear what others think.

    Greek Mythology Themed Beers

No goddesses? Your Apollo beer would be much better for Demeter. Don't forget the heroes (Heracles, Theseus, etc.) Post all the names when your done. Cool idea! (Although I may be biased--I'm a classicist ;))

    Brewing software for Mac

I have, actually, several times. Steve's responses are always polite and swift. His response to the AAU thing was that the the brew day feature will automatically calculate hops of the same type but different alpha-acid percentage (as long as you enter it in the inventory). I've also...

    Brewing software for Mac

Beer Alchemy is very good. I only have two issues with it: 1. the ability to write recipes in AAUs would be good (though the batch editor/brew day feature can work with multiple batches of the same hops, with different alpha-acid %s) 2. the SRM/color calculation is low, for some reason...

Beer Tools Pro vs. Beer Alchemy

I *love* Beer Alchemy and have been using it for a couple of years now. The recipe formulator is easy; the brew day feature is great (the 'instructions' do all the math and lay it out for you in the order you need it). But, as noted above, the SRM calculations are way off. So when I'm brewing...

    Replace Beer Alchemy Inventory?

I don't think Steve is going to continue to develop/support it for much more. I recently asked him a question and also asked how long he'd continue to support it, and he said not much longer. Shame. It's clearly the best, most Mac-like brewing app for OS X. You can always add items to the...

    Serving homebrew at public events?

state to state....better check with you local ABC or equivalent. That said, I just had a fund-raiser for a not-for-profit organization where we rented a facility from the city parks division, paid the $5 surcharge so we could serve alcohol, charged admission to the general public for the event...

How to use honey in my beer!

lol.... About using honey....I've brewed with it three times, most recently in a Midas Touch clone recipe that I modified to reflect more of an authentic ancient recipe. The thing I notice about using honey is that when some/most of the sugars are consumed in fermentation, you're left with the...

    sub for nottingham yeast?

+17,874,439 for Notty It's the schizzz.........!!!! When I started brewing, I had kits with Muntons. It sucked. Then I got caught in the liquid yeast phase (WLP 001 is pretty good, though). Now, it's Notty for all my ales and Saflager-23 for all my lagers (use two packs; starters are...

Need your opinion on a brewpub idea.

Columbus is a nice little town. (I used to live in Madison.) Wisconsin has a strong and varied brewing tradition--duh! ;) If you just limited the bulk of your beers to Wisc beers, you'd cover most beer tastes: Miller, Blatz, Leine's, Capital Brewing, New Glarus....etc. And you'd have...

For the love of Dry Yeast?

I went through my liquid yeast phase in my first year or so. Now, I only use them for hefes/wits. Even for Belgians, I get it from a bottle of whatever. For everything else, even lagers, dry yeast is the schiz. I look at my collection of WLP empties and think, "What the hell was I thinking...?"

    Ballard Bitter?

That's awesome, TeleTwanger! thx Crystal 60 sounds in order (as I remember the taste/color). As far as the base malt, all the Redhook beers used to be based on klages sourced as close to Seattle as possible (so they said). The recipe is now on queue. I appreciate the help. Cheers!

    Someone stole my brewery name!

Still...it sucks. It wouldn't have taken 30 secs. of their time to google around and see if the name is being used for something remotely similar. Maybe they'll be out of business in a year.
