Tell my why I shouldn’t use a bag for a filter in my mash tun.

Hahahaha ok then. Advice NOT taken. Also an large amount of helpful ancillary information!

Tell my why I shouldn’t use a bag for a filter in my mash tun.

So I got a bag for my cooler b/c it just seemed like a better all-around idea than Bazookas, false bottoms, or manifolds. Now, I want to know what’s NOT GOOD about it, and why I might want to change to something else in the future. I want to become a professional - not just a hobbyist - so I’d...

    Fremont Brother IPA Clone?

@Northern_Brewer also, thanks for the advice about linking to the brewery. If you can’t tell, I’m quite a noob. Appreciate it. Also, I’ll be visiting England (more specifically London) for the first time over this Thanksgiving, so if you’ve got any out-of-the-ordinary places or brews to...

    Fremont Brother IPA Clone?

@Northern_Brewer Oh my gosh, you’re the BEST! I had no idea such information could be found out. Thanks so much for your help, and your expertise in crafting a recipe!! I’ll definitely try this out and post back!

Who in the heck cares about how much head a beer has, and how long it lasts??

@passedpawn i hope the gibberish that is my comment above is another reason to upgrade the mobile interface! It’s nearly impossible to edit text you’ve typed while on a mobile phone!

Who in the heck cares about how much head a beer has, and how long it lasts??

Thanks for the info. I supposed I can get behind it “protecting” the beer, or being a direct correlation to the quality of the beer. However, I think I will always be annoyed when a foam mustache is the collateral requirement for drinking a beer. Speaking of having good technique, I’ll never...

Who in the heck cares about how much head a beer has, and how long it lasts??

I’m glad you like that but I don’t want a foam mustache for the first half of my beer!

    Fremont Brother IPA Clone?

Hey guys (and gals(?(:P))), Fremont Brewing in Seattle has my favorite beer, and I have the luck of living in South Florida *two big thumbs down* so I can’t get it here. It’s a giant beauty of malty goodness and hoppy wonder - I’ve never tasted another DIPA like it. It’s hop bitterness doesn’t...

Best type of filter for a DIY mash tun?

So, no common consensus? No one getting stuck sparges with a particular method? Of having better mashing results with another? Anyone out there who’s tried more than one of these methods?

Who in the heck cares about how much head a beer has, and how long it lasts??

Last time I checked, a beer with a head that never went away was really annoying to drink, and the head added nothing to improve my experience in any other way. Why does it matter at all what kind of lacing a beer leaves on a glass, or how long the head lasts? IMO, it takes away from the volume...

Best type of filter for a DIY mash tun?

Hello everyone, I'm about to make a mash tun out of a large cooler I have, and I would love to hear about your experience and thoughts of how I should go about making a filter to keep all the grain and sediment out when extracting the wort. These are the current methods I've heard of: make a...

How do I know when fermentation is complete when the "consistent FG" rule isn't working?

the first batch was SafAle BE-134, which was quite a rager, and this second batch was Lallemand Belle Saison, which seems to be less active than the BE-134 judging by the amount of bubbling in the airlock. 1st batch: OG: 1.056 FG: 1.012 (premature measurement as apparent in the original post)...

How do I know when fermentation is complete when the "consistent FG" rule isn't working?

I'm not freakin' lying! lol It was 100% carbonated in two days! I know what beer is supposed to be like - I've certainly drunk years of it. No bombs either. *knock on wood* Of course the yeast wasn't finished cuz it tasted like crap, but I can 100% confirm that it was carbonated after two days...

How do I know when fermentation is complete when the "consistent FG" rule isn't working?

How do I know when fermentation is complete? I’m on my second ever brew, both of which have been Saisons, and I’m having trouble understanding when fermentation is complete. I thought it would be done whenever it’s not bubbling through the airlock anymore, but the guy at my LHBS said not to...

What I did for beer today

I took some of my lunch break to go to plumbing supply store to get 50’ of 3/8” OD copper tubing, and tonight I’m going to wrap it around a 5 gal. bucket - and viola! I’ll have an immersion chiller.
