    Hybrid(?) Diffusion Stone

That's logically true, but this is part of an in-line system. If I try to not over-oxygenate my wort, or if I'm conserving oxygen, or, conducting CIP, liquid will backflow through the stone. Another simple solution is to add a 1/4"mfl swivel via an easily cleaned pigtail, but I would prefer...

    Hybrid(?) Diffusion Stone

Has anyone come across a 1/2"NPT in-line diffusion stone with either a check valve or a 1/4"MFL integrated with it? ...so I can add a check valve. I'd love for my oxygen line to stop taking in wort on it's way past the stone.

Fastferment conical - thermowell probe size??

Responding to an old thread, sure, but any headway on this? Did you use thermal paste? Was it effective?

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

It's just a few clips, not a detailed description of construction, but here's the operation I've made for myself: YouTube link in case the video doesn't upload: http://youtu.be/E_ffgPgH8-k

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

No more dust than baking a cake. It really depends on how neat you're being while you work. Before I enclosed mine in a bucket, I was just milling into large mixing bowls. There wasn't so much dust that I had to clean the whole house, just had to wipe up the counter. Hand cranking isn't a hefty...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I don't wash mine. I knock the dust off, or blow it clean with compressed air. It's a habit I picked up in culinary school. There are some tools that don't get washed, like grain mills, flour sifters, and pasta machines. Those tools will gum-up or jam if the materials that pass through them are...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Much later than promised, but here's a short clip of my newly powered mill in action: http://youtu.be/kL5Yo8zYJhc I used an old laptop power supply to provide the 24V, hence the slow response to the switch. I plan to make a more descriptive video once it's been tuned up. It's just been slow...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I've been distracted potty training a toddler this week, but I'll get this finished up a post a video on YouTube. I'll need it for a brew day this weekend! If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is. - US Navy Maintenance Mantra

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I've started running low on scrap materials (necessary to keep this a "junk" build) but I plan to finish this up soon. I found that the threads of the windshield wiper motor fit my mill perfectly without any needed modification. I'm using an old laptop power supply to provide the 24 volts...

    Fermentation ...under pressure?

I'm asking for anyone to share their thoughts/advice for a closed fermentation experiment I've had on my mind. I have a summer home on a lake - a lake with a fairly stable temperature range - and I want to brew a true bottom-fermenting brew fermented ...at the bottom of the lake. The trick is...

    All grain blow-over!

Thanks guys! I have to agree with what you've both said - it sounds more than reasonable - I just stopped thinking critically once things didn't go as expected. I totally plan to brew this recipe again, and will take better care to ensure I have enough time to let it finish fermenting before dry...

    All grain blow-over!

I recently brewed my first all grain batch of beer - a hoppy blonde ale - with a 12# grain bill and three hop additions in the boil. It had an original gravity of 1.067. I expected fermentation to finish in a week (in a temp controlled environment: 65deg) so that I could rack to secondary and...

    dry hopping

This might warrant it's own thread, but: I expected primary fermentation to be complete, but was about .05 away from my expected gravity. After deliberating for two minutes I dry hopped anyway. I'm brewing a hoppy blonde ale for a competition in 10 days (18 days total brew time) and I expect the...

Pros and cons of removing chlorine?

Would sanitizing with hydrogen peroxide contribute to the phenol reaction? Perhaps even amplify it? I used peroxide in a pinch to sanitize, (sterilize, really) and it just dawned on me that the peroxide, combined with chlorinated water, probably has a more profound effect on off-flavors.
