Taking the Plunge...My Experiences of Going from Extract to BIAB

So true. I'm currently staring at 85lbs of 2R and 55lbs of red x. Can't wait for the weekend... then the next weekend, etc. The bug has bit me hard.

    Wilserbrewerbags vs The Brew Bag

My experience with the Brew Bag has not been the greatest. I have used 3 separate bags. 1 developed small holes from light use (no snags). The second one completely split at the seams when I was squeezing, this being its first use as well. The third has only been used once, but I am not all that...

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

Yep - much cheaper than anywhere I've seen! Thanks, TorMag!

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

Thanks for the additional information! I think that is the nudge I needed. It's been fairly difficult trying to maintain mash temps because the temps have been in the lower 40's and it was even below freezing during my last brew day. I'll let you know when I make the jump and give it a go...

    Upgraded Induction BIAB!!

I have the same kettle! Been considering the same cooktop, and I'm glad you've shared your experience. Have you done many batches with it? I typically do 5g batches, and I'm seriously contemplating moving my operation indoors to the basement. I just need a little nudge...

    Red X malt

I have a smash going with 100% red x and Amarillo. Waiting on the kegerator/kegs (no more bottling!) to arrive next week before I can share pics, but the color, from what I've seen, is a fairly dark red (in a smash). With that being said, my experience is limited with this grain, so take my...

    Biab SMaSh recipe?

So brew day was fun (insert sarcasm). I ended up using my new barley crusher for the first time. In a hurry, I hit the power to my drill. Well, the mill tipped over and 3 lbs of grain went flying. Luckily most of it landed on a brand new table that was clean. I also moved into a new house and it...

    Biab SMaSh recipe?

I'm basically doing this tomorrow, but I'm subbing in Red X (11lbs) and Pacman yeast (if available at local store, otherwise Us-05). The hops and schedule is fairly similar. The aforementioned (Chunks) recipe should be a great one to start with.
