Your post above had you adding "2/3g" which I took to be GALLONS. So, yeah, adding 3 gallons of clear water to get to 5 gallons really will cut your OG way down, but adding 2/3 quarts shouldn't hit it that hard. You ought to be fine. Again, off the top of my head, but I'd guess around 1.070 or...
This is one of my favorites. We've been nursing our way through the first batch and I'm planning on making another when this one runs out. Thanks for a great recipe!
Then I put the cooler on a chair and pulled the spigot, letting the wort pour into the brewing kettle. So basically, it was 5g of water minus whatever the grains absorbed.
After the hour boil, I cooled the wort, took a reading of 1.082(!), and transferred to the carboy. It needed another...
This isn't news to anyone who's been paying attention, but this really is a fantastic recipe. I brewed up a batch a couple months ago and I'm steadily plowing my way through the bottles.
Side by side, I preferred this to the Ruination. Someone once suggested that they tasted a bit of onion in...
Made a version of this and have been drinking it for a few weeks. Really pleased with how it came out!
We did a side by side blind comparison the other day w/ a bottle of the real deal. Our clone had a less 'sharp' hop aroma and bite on the tongue than did the Stone. Before we revealed their...
I'd be sure to add a generous portion of lactose, and mash around 150. You might also use a less enthusiastically attenuating strain of yeast to leave more sweetness in the beer. I don't have any great suggestions there, every yeast I use seems to clean house pretty well.
Hope that helps.
I'm about halfway through (drinking) a batch of this. Nothing new in saying this, but it's a really great recipe. Everyone who's tasted it has raved about it. My batch came through with a more subtle chocolate flavor and a lighter, dryer mouthfeel than I was expecting.
So, I've been drinking these now for about two or three weeks and meaning to get back to you with the results!
The beer turned out really nicely, and I'm very proud. The lower gravity did make the hops a bit more prominent than a typical Porter, but the result is more "crisp" than "bitter."...
I'll definitely let you know how it turns out once I get the chance to crack open a bottle.
Not having much experience with partial mash either, I'm not sure if the lower OG is a result of something that I botched, or if it's about right for the amount of grain/LME that I used. I imagine that...
Thought I'd let you know that I used your recipe as the base for a partial mash version. Turned out to be quite a bit lower gravity, so I imagine that the hops are going to be more prominent. But the wort smells fantastic (just tucked the primary away in the closet last night) and I'm looking...
Not too far away from the convention center, the Vine Street Pub is one of my favorites. Local beer (I think mostly brewed in Boulder). Java Porter and Mocha Stout are both solid.

If it's been a couple weeks you probably just need to boil up a bit more sugar, add this to the beer from the unsealed bottles and then bottle it back up in bottles that you can actually seal.
If it's only been a day or two, you might not even need to add more sugar to get the carbonation going.
