Clarification - The bottle is plastic.

I got some free beer making supplies and in the box was this bottle. I have looked for something similar but I can't find anything like it. What is it used for? Is it even for home brewing? The bottom is mostly round but has a flat spot off to the side a bit. So if it was to stand up on its own...

Just brewed my first batch this week and took the blow off hose off and switched it with an airlock. I got all of the gunk out of the blow off hose and let it soak in a cleaner for a couple of hours but it still smells like beer. Do I need to keep trying to get the smell out of the hose for it...
