    Juniper Flavor?

amarillo is more citrusy flavored, some say orange or lemon. Juniper? hmmmm....could be your water interacting with the hops flavor maybe? You should brew up a second batch and see if you get the same thing, unless of course you dont like it....in which case be glad you only did 2 gallons!

    Priming and other things

It is possible to prime directly into the bottles but it requires some math and it takes a lot longer than priming into a bucket. Some people use coopers drops with no problems, but I can't seem to get them locally so I haven't tried them. I would definitely invest in a racking cane. It fills...

Murky Soupy Sweet & Sour Beer

Glad to hear it! I know sometimes patience is the hardest thing when making beer. It is something I am learning too! I make note of those off flavors and smells in my recipe "book" and the approx dates it was noticed, so if I make it again or use that same yeast i will remember and not...

    grolcsh(sp?) bottles??

new grommets are cheap. I use grolsch almost exclusively now. Bought about 60 on craigs list. Change out the grommets every few batches, imho. BUt I can bottle alone using these, no partner needed!.

    Water Salts

there are so many factors involved in that it is impossible to say. A teaspoon is not always a teaspoon, if you tap it suddenly the product in it will compact and you will have less than a teaspoon. So you can never be totally sure. What is the purpose behind adding it? Grams are fairly small...

Murky Soupy Sweet & Sour Beer

Opened a new bottle of wine and got that wiff of bananas. It went away after two days of sitting. Had a porter that smelled like cider vinegar, so strong it made my eyes water. After three weeks in cold storage(50*f) it went away. You need to just let it sit for awhile, like coupe said. Check it...

    Bottling straight from secondary?

I have bottled directly out of secondary into the bottles by priming the bottles first. It took a bit of math (priming solution amt divided by 48 bottles) but it worked just fine. I did find it took longer, pouring the solution into the bottles, than if I had used my bottling bucket. But during...

    mixing extracts

I dont think that would be a problem really It just wont be what they say on the label, but a draught and a cervesa are both pretty light so you will get something really light, right? I might add an extra dose of hops or two just for fun. I think if you go onto beertools.com and look up the...

Anyone have a Coopers Real Ale Recipe

Last time I did a coopers, the guy at the brew supply house said to add an extra 3.3lbs (would that be 6.6kg?) of an similar extract. That equaled one can of Muntons. It raised the gravity where I needed it and gave the beer a better body.

    "extract late" method

got those hops backwards. Perle fist, then cascade Anyway, I am doing it as I type. I steeped at 150 for 30 minutes. Then hops at the start of the boil, 60 min. Then boiled for 45 min, added extract, brought it back to boil in about 6 minutes and hopped (15 min) and (5) min Did a 2 1/2 gal...

    brand of malt extract

Iuse muntons all the time. I dont know about that dry quality, isn't that dependent on other things too? I think you are safe using either. Muntons tastes great right out of the can.....like molasses.

    First Go.

david 42 can you explain a little more about adding the lacotse? Do I need to boil it like I would with sugar before adding it? Should I add it in small increments or only add it when I am beginning bottling? Does lactose ferment? Sorry for all the questions, I jsut haven't found one...
