IMHO, you should really check your hydrometer. Beersmith told me that my second AG batch (Trippel) was going to be 1.085 and I got 1.055. I fretted about for several hours engaging in all sorts of re-mashing tomfoolery and what not. Then I called my brew store and asked their opinion. They told...
It will taste terrible and you should throw it out...
Actually just don't worry. you will still have beer and while having the flavor of the biscuit malt would have been snazzy and sophisticated, it will still taste good.
Well I'm getting ready to bottle this morning and my fg is 1.010. I followed the recipe except I used the Wyeast Cider Smackpack for yeast. It has been in the fermenter for about a month and tastes great. My cider fanatic girlfriend loves it.
I can completely relate. When I tasted mine at 2...
Considering I am a fan of the music genre, I went to the website to see the labels and see if I agree or not. They are definitely trying too hard. Additionally, they do another thing that I absolutely hate: play music on the website without asking or having a good way to turn it off. Enraging...
I used the proper amount of DME, but instead of 4lbs and 3lbs of LME respectively, I used 3.3 of each because that is what my brew store sells them in. I find it hard to believe that a difference of .4 lbs can account for that much of a difference. Maybe part way, then other things like boiling...
So I brewed this yesterday and everything went well, except I measured my OG at 1.056. Is this because I have not yet added the Belgian Candi Sugar yet? Or should I assume I messed something up? Other than that, everything went well and it is fermenting pretty vigorously.
Thanks for the input.
So I am drinking my first batch of this and it is delicious.
I did not measure OG, but FG was 1.010 with 14 days in primary then bottled. Then a week in the bottles and it tastes fantastic.
Next time I brew this (probably in a month or so), I would like to add oatmeal to the specialty grain...
hey, I realize these might be basic questions, but what is D-180 and whirfloc, and why did you add them? Also, is the dextrose in the boil just to raise abv?
many thanks!
I usually don't keep a lid on the kettle because in my experience so far, it has always boiled over when I put the lid on. Maybe there is a trick to keeping the lid on and not boiling over, but I don't know it.
Does your #1 imply that you think the scorching happens right when the extract is...
Hey everyone,
Its my first post here and I just got my fourth batch into the fermenter. This batch used a new brew kettle considering the old one was an ancient enameled kettle and was chipped and flaking (not good flavors, I suspect). The new kettle is Stainless and holds 5 gal, and is rather...
