maybe old thread, but oh well. i searched before posting and found this thread that answered my question. thanks to all who replied.
llazy lama that graph ROCKS!
my situation if interested? did a sam adams maple nut porter clone (but when it said add a gallon of maple syrup -- i added REAL...
never had the wit so i cannot speak of that label. find it hard to believe they would change their adhesive for a single beer, but who knows? every highland label i have peeled comes off in a single piece with no residue to speak of.
the gaelic is good. the oatmeal porter is my favorite...
and may be in the souteast region ....
Highland Brewing Co. out of Asheville, NC has the *easiest* labels to remove that I've ever come across. they RARELY leave a residue on the outside of the bottle. plus, most of their offerings are pretty good.
just sharing for those who bottle.
yeah i got a 1.030 OG beer. fuggin' "lite" beer! (insult to injury/salt-in-the-wounds thing -- i didn't have any DME left. DOH!)
how much ya wanna bet i NEVER make *that* mistake again? ;j
again, thank y'all for the input.
well, i think i did poorly with the processor, or i was using the wrong tool for the job (both?). new OG for first runnings is 1.035 (again supposed to be 1.061 post-boil). that's workable though. i can throw some DME at it. it won't "taste" right, but it should be okay.
HA i think i am going...
geckholm --- thanks that makes sense.
kh -- that is the plan. stay tuned. gonna be a long night as i am starting (again) at 9 PM. UGH!
thanks all for the feedback. feelin' better than i was 90 minutes ago.
polboy i do not understand. how do i boil it DOWN to 1.035-1.040 when it is only 1.012 to start with? that's a LOT of DME to add isn't it? i don't understand.
cheesehed, i said i was open for experimenting. well i think i will attempt that. 13# is a LOT of processing but may be worth trying...
well the first runnings OG reading on my refractometer was 1.012 (the expected FG for the recipe). the expected OG was 1.061. well, at least i didn't waste the hops and yeast. thanks for the replies.
is there anything i could do with the wort? i don't care to experiment now that it's likely...
chef -- i may try that. i am now at the end of the mashing, so can check gravity and see *how* bad it is. i have nothing to lose as polboy puts it.
savory -i shudder to look at the gravity, but will in a few. it's still in mash phase. but yeah 5% may well be what i get. ya can't fix stoopid...
So I ordered a ruthless rye clone kit from AHB. I was in a rush tonight and did not pay attention.
I went ahead got my water to temp. and added to the (pre-warmed) tun. Put my grains in and noticed it was much more difficult to stir. I thought the husks looked a bit bigger than usual, but...
hey formula2fast .... did you ever get around to this? i am curious about this too. i cannot find it in the local stores anymore, so really would like to find a recipe that works (or is close enough to tweak). thanks.
well as you can see you're not alone. too bad the newer kegs don't incorporate a sight window so you could see WHEN you're almost out and plan accordingly.
actually first time i kicked one, it was total surprise ... and was bummed. so started trying to check them by feel so wouldn't be...
good stuff folks. sooo appreciate the advice. it gives me something to consider, to be sure.
hey arcaneXor, i do a batch sparge, but it typically takes me close to an hour to empty the 5 gallon cooler, so would you think that this would work as effectively as a fly sparge considering that the...
