    Using peppers

Just an idea and have never tried this but you could probably also order pure capsaicin (= chemical in peppers responsible for the heat). http://www.scbt.com/datasheet-3577-capsaicin.html $56 for 50 mg. Average ghost pepper has 4.3 mg, so this should give you enough for the rest of your...

    Set-up to measure ABV% of ice-concentrated beer

Are you referring to the water-ethanol phase diagram? Don't think that would give me what I need mate. It's a good diagram to figure out how far you can go with fractional freezing though! I have a ****ty freezer so probably not very far :)

    Set-up to measure ABV% of ice-concentrated beer

Not dumb at all! Actually, I can't really give you a rational answer. It's just that I'd like to know what the exact ABV% is (and I think that judging just by volume means your likely to be a few % off) :) Many thanks for your detailed reply!! :onestar: Quick question: isn't the pycnometer a...

Hi mate! I'm based out of Camden and more interested in the extreme end of the beer spectrum. Currently drinking a double IPA and have an Imperial stout in the fermentor. After that I'm planning to brew an oak aged barleywine, scotch bonnet aged Imperial stout, cherry flavoured Belgian...

    Set-up to measure ABV% of ice-concentrated beer

Thanks for the reply! In theory that works if the method would be perfect (i.e. no beer stays behind in the ice). Unfortunately this is not the case. Especially when aiming for high ABV% with multiple iterations of freezing this is hard to avoid. For that reason I'm looking for a more exact...

    Set-up to measure ABV% of ice-concentrated beer

Ok, just wanted to sense check something. I'm thinking of building a set-up as explained on this page: http://www.themadfermentationist.com/2009/07/testing-alcohol-content-of-ice.html It's just that I don't want to spend all the $ buying a density meter. Therefore I thought it should be...
