I just kegged Jamil's ESB. It is a very nice beer. I am not an ESB expert, but I was pretty surprised at the malt sweetness that came through with the beer and the lack of hop aroma. Especially considering the 1 oz of EKGs at flameout.
I brewed this beer for a competition, so staying...
A couple of things. 1) 170 is the highest you want your sparge to get. I would shoot for more like 168. You are pushing it at 170. 2) I don't like the flavor of US05. If you have a consistent flavor you don't like and you use the same yeast everytime....$7 for a good yeast is a lot cheaper...
Batch sparged with two equal sparges. I ramped up my temp to 168 before taking the first runnings and sparged with the 168 water. I stirred the grain bed really good when I added my first round of sparge water and let both sparges recirc for 5-10 minutes before running it off.
Is there a...
This is kind of related to the guy with 40% efficiency, but I thought this question deserved its own thread.
Last night I made a Weizen. Planned on my usual 66% efficiency. I am using a Pol HERMS clone.
6 lbs Pilsner, 6 lbs Weyermann Pale Wheat; Jamil's recipe - single infusion mash...
If your dad's an electrician, you want to build this yourself. It is daunting, but you will figure it out. Once you get all the parts and see how they would you realize that it's actually pretty damn simple.
The biggest problem is that there isn't one thread that explains it all, and Pol's...
While I was inside using the restroom. I came out to my garage to find all my mash water on the floor. I guess I didn't get one of my QDs completely engaged and after a few minutes it blew off. I had already run it for several minutes before going in.
I was mashing at 149 and it hadn't...
I have had success adding at flame out and in secondary. If you're going to do flame out, you will need quite a bit because fermentation will scrub a lot of the flavor/aroma out.
Bitter orange peel doesn't give much orange flavor IMO, but it gives bitterness which can be used to augment your...
I am having a terrible time with those o-rings as well. I have replaced all of mine at least once and it's ridiculous. Thanks for the McMaster part number. They also have them in PTFE which might be a little more durable here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#ptfe-o-rings/=6x5fwp
Not sure if I want...
I think it sounds tasty, but you'll never taste the citrus peel with all those hops.
You might consider using fresh zest and a lot more of it. I don't care for the dried peel flavor very much.
I have the same problem, but it's in my garage - I am getting a lot of condensation on the ceiling and end up with a rainforest by the time the boil is finished. I would like a solution that doesn't involve a fan blowing or sucking dust into my brew kettle but haven't figured that out yet.
Friendly suggestion: it would be really awesome if you had a "wish list" or "save for later" feature. That way when I know I need something small, I can throw it on my list and then add it to my order when I'm ready to get some more ingredients. Otherwise I have to leave myself notes and keep...
