    Using Yeast Cake

I just reused yeast for the first time and I used tips from this site. I pulled the beer off of the cake and bottled it, returned the airlock to the fermenter for 1-2 days until I was ready to brew the next batch. I brewed up the wort, cooled it and when I was ready to pitch I poured 2 cups of...

    Bombers vs 12oz bottles.

I find a combination is good to have. 12 oz. bottles are always good. Bombers are good for nights/days when you know that you want more than 1 beer and sharing your homebrew with friends and family are nice with bombers. You may even save some beer since sharing big bottles seems to go...

What are you DRINKING tonight!? :)

I see a visit to the local brewery in my evening future (Kodiak brewery). If/when I drink at home I will drink Sierra Nevada Torpedo.

Hate to waste so much water chilling the wort!

I turn the faucet way down and it uses much less water and only takes a little more time...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I am doing a test boil right now (should have done it last night). Then brewing up a blonde ale. It won't be blonde very long, I plan to split the batch and dry hop 1/2 with Jalapenos and the other 1/2 with habaneros. Yes. Hopefully this batch goes smoother than the last since I had problems...

Thank goodness for color changing beer label mountains!

I enjoy Coors myself. We lived in Denver for 2 years and I enjoyed visiting the mother brewery in Golden, CO. I always enjoy learning about about history of the old west. Coors Banquet (regular Coors) gained the name because Adolph Coors put on a banquet (food and beer) for the Rocky Mountain...

    Hello from Kodiak, Alaska

I started brewing extract recipes around 2000. I had a lonnnnnnggg break in brewing when I was deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom and came back to the states and moved around the country looking for a place to settle. My brewing equipment was kept in storage in Ohio while we moved packing...

For those who have done a Chili Pepper beer before...

It has been interesting to find ANY posts about chilis in beer. I LOVE both beer and chilis. I am making a chili beer and I have decided to roast the chilis over charcoal and remove the stems and outer peel, cut in 1/2 and add to secondary. If I could only get the Dale's Pale Ale clone of the...

    Canned Jalapenos for Pepper Beer?

I am brewing a blonde ale that I plan to dry hop with (1/2 batch) Jalapeno and the other 1/2 with Habanero. I planned to just wash the outside of the peppers thoroughly, no vodka and without boiling. Boiling releases the heat of the pepper and I was concerned the vodka could add flavors that I...

    Brand new to brewing!

Welcome Slantedbolt, My suggestion is to go out and get the latest printing of BYO homebrew magazine. (Brew your own). They had an article that you may enjoy: How to brew with extract. A couple of months ago they ran an article on brewing all grain recipes. Jump in and ask questions and...

    60min. boil?

I brewed a Dale's Pale Ale clone and learned not to measure the wort during the boil. I extended the boil for 20 minutes in order to get my projected wort for the fermenter and I ended up being way short (about 3/4 gallon). Grrrr. Hot liquid takes up more space than cool. I learned to make a...

    San Francisco Visit

Try to visit Anchor brewery. Though it can be tough to get in for a tour. I have heard terrific things about the Monk's Kettle. San Rafael is just a short jog north of San Fran and there you can find the Broken Drum Brewery and pub. It is terrific!
