    Can I use scoby from 1 gal batch to make 2.5 gal batch?

    I've made 2 gallon batches with a White Labs 4" diameter SCOBY that was paper thin. 5 days later, a fairy nice pellicle was covering the entire 9" surface. The company says that SCOBY will easily do an 11 inch 5 gallon kettle.

    As hottpeper said, only heat a fraction of the total you will use. And add that back to your other cold water. I do 2 gallon batches. So, I make my sweet tea out of 1 quart of filtered water. If it's black tea, ~210F degrees for 10 mins. Green tea, ~180F for 5 mins. I then add that one quart...

    Sure, as long as you refrigerate it. But, why would you do that? It only takes a few minutes to make the sweet tea

    Do you use cheesecloth for Kombucha filtering?

    Maybe if the cheesecloth was folded over multiple times. but, that seems like a lot of effort when there are better options
