    Extract with specialty grains question

Ok, so in this case, I have 1 lb of specialty malts (8oz Victory, 4oz Crystal 80, 4oz Chocolate). I would mash that in 1.5 qts of water for 45 minutes at 155 - 160 degrees, sparge with .5 gallons of 170 degree water. That puts me at just under a gallon total. Would I then fill to 5 gallons to...

    Extract with specialty grains question

I'm getting prepped for my first extract w/ specialty grain beer, the Brewer's Best Imperial Nut Brown ale. After reading through the forums and talking to both my homebrewing co-worker and the propiator of my LBHS, I decided to go with a full boil instead of the partial the kit recommends. My...

    EMERGANCY!!! Stuck Sparge

OK, I know this is completely off-topic, and I apologize in advance. But what is the "10 letters" thing about? I've seen it several times on the boards, and haven't been able to find an explanation.

There are a few in Philly as well. Home Sweet Homebrew and Barry's Homebrew are two I can think of off the top of my head.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

And done!! Everything went super smoothly. Apparantly, I have 12 oz bottles tho :D. 24 happily-filled bottles of beer. I was suprised that I managed to get a full case out of it. I guess my top-off after wort was a little more than I thought. The taste wasn't bad at all. Now comes the hard...

Fresh to Brewing, need some direction

As a newbie myself, I can suggest 2 awesome resources... John Palmer How to Brew www.howtobrew.com Charlie Papazian: The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Both are easy to read. My take on both is thus: Palmer will give you a great understanding of the science of brewing and Papazian will give...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

and I was hoping for a quick once-over of my intended procedure. Before I begin I will say that hopefully this will be the last time I intend to do it this way since I intend on upgrading my kit to a real set-up soon. Tools: My full fermentor Munton's carb drops 24 brand-new 16oz glass...

A couple questions from the new guy.

The debate about bucket vs carboy brings up a question for me...If a secondary is often used when using adjuncts like fruit, wouldn't using a bucket as a secondary be easier? Most threads I've read so far talk about using a carbot as a secondary. I would think it would be more difficult to get...

    Greetings from Southern NJ!

Are there any good LHBS close by? I had planned on using BeerCrafters in Turnersville, but it looks like they closed down. So I ventured over to Home Sweet Homebrew in Philly. Good shop, but the bridge and parking is a PITA.
