    Missing a mash paddle? 7 iron works great!

    I use a 5 gallon paint stirrer that you put in a cordless drill. Costs about 5 bucks at Lowes. It also creates enough suction to unclog my false bottom when I use alot of wheat. All of my paddles and spoons are relegated to spanking only.

    How do you keep Wyeast smack packs from making a mess?

    If your package gets too warm it will spurt. I just really, really wanted to say that. But seriously, try to keep the Wyeast at 70-75 degrees until you are ready to open it.

    Use the chocolate wheat malt for coloring and flavor with that extract. They are usually 500L to 540L color. Assuming you are making a 5 gallon batch and you are shooting for a dunkelweize go for 1/4 to 1/2lbs of choco malt. If you want to just add color try 2 to 4 oz.

    Welcome to Texas. My wife being the wonderful Clevelander she is, puts up with my wonderful hobby. One thing here that is a must have is a wort chiller as the tap water never falls below 95 in the summer(slight exageration.)
