1 fermenter cleared and the other didn't

I'm sure someone else has had this problem, but I couldn't think of good search terms to find another thread. I brewed a 10gal AG batch a few weeks back. It was split, I thought, evenly into 2-5gal primaries. I normally switch the outflow of the chiller between the buckets every couple...

Lots of trub/dry hop. Reduce loss?

Use the nylon bags; not only are they reusable, but they have a much finer mesh that the muslin socks. The only real trick is finding a way to hang the bag above your wort while it's chilling. They tend to hold quite a bit of wort in them, so I like to tea bag hem a couple times during the boil...

    Upgrading My Kegerator

I use an old fridge ($50) and it fits 3 corny kegs with my CO2 bottle quite nicely. After removing the fruit and vegetable drawers I had to build a little wooden insert to make the bottom flat, but it wasn't that big of a job. In addition I use the freezer on top for extra frozen food storage, I...

How to Turn Free Liquid Malt Extract Barrels Into Planters

Thanks for the kind words! It's surprising to see the wildly different values people place on old plastic barrels. Not sure about the other brewers looking for these, but I live in a big college town. I suspect we have a larger proportion of extract brewers and not as many of us doing 10+ gallon...

Can this be used for anything?

You could use it, but you would have to filter the wort and it would be quite slow. Those AC fittings are designed like the valves for tires. May have some application to chill kegged if it was in a small ice bath

Tap-A-Draft small scale beer dispensing system : A review

I have one old style and my friend has new style. It's a good way for me not to have to bottle beer for my buddies :) I agree with the LuckyBeagle the older 2 cartridge system has some advantages. Nitro and much better pressure regulation because you can add 8oz cartridges as needed and you...

Old Wine Kit, How Old is too Old?

I opened the juice bag and it smelled and tasted fairly rank. Almost like a combination of varnished and burnt. Also, the folks that made the wine expert kit told me it was too old, so I tossed it. Just glad I didn't pay anything for it.

Old Wine Kit, How Old is too Old?

Thanks for the replies, it's this kit, just old http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/sp-merlot.html?gclid=CNe5rsXsy7sCFcsRMwod_nAAGQ To more directly answer, it's red, but I don't know if they are mixed grapes. I would assume just Merlot grapes, but who knows.

Old Wine Kit, How Old is too Old?

Hi All, I have a wine kit that I suspect is from 2006 or 2007. The yeast expiration was 10-2008. It's an original series selection Merlot kit. Has anyone ever tried anything this old? The box was sealed, but I have no idea what the overall storage conditions were. Obviously new yeast...
