Dry Hopping Using Micron Mesh Cartridge

3 oz., 4 at the maximum. I feel once hops expand and inevitably compact, anymore would see a negligible increase in benefit, not to mention that the mesh on it may be suseptible to damage if too much is crammed inside. With that being said, tie some fishing line onto the end of it and you can...

Dry Hopping Using Micron Mesh Cartridge

I have 4 of these. Instead of cramming it to its limit with hops, I use a couple at a time and split the hops between them. I do this for each dry hop addition. Seems to work quite well. Having brewed the same beer twice, once with and once without these, I haven't noticed a difference at...

    FOUND!!! X331 Hops (Strata)

Just ordered a couple pounds. I'm envisioning some dank and tropical strata/galaxy(my favorite hop) IPAs in my future. I also came across Medusa hops. They sound great and right up my alley as far as hops I like. Has anyone brewed much with them?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Going to be brewing a galaxy/el dorado/mosaic NEIPA. Deciding if I want to go crazy and use my 18 oz total hop schedule (including dry hop additions) I drew up, or a more reserved ~13 oz total hop schedule. :)

    Hazy/Juicy/NEIPA

I think the term juicy is interpreted differently with this style by many people. Similarly, the term 'milkshake' in a milkshake IPA. Imagine the surprised look on someone's face, who does not like beer, when they take a sip thinking they are about to indulge in a beer that tastes like an...

    Trub removal faux pas:catalyst system

I use a Catalyst and I did this very thing with the first beer I brewed. The beer turned out great. I agree about not emptying the trub jar until fermentation is complete. A little trick I have learned, if you notice you are getting more trub than what the jar holds, buy a bigger jar! Since...

    Wort Taste and Smell

It very well could be a bitterness perceived as sourness. Having only ever brewed IPAs, hefeweizens, and pale ales, I haven't brewed with roasted and chocolate malts before. Here is the grain bill: 7.5 lbs Pale Malt 1 lb Roasted Barley 1 lb oz Chocolate Malt 12.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt 12.0...

    Wort Taste and Smell

So, last night I brewed a milk stout. During the mash and boil is smelled and tasted great. After we cooled it using a CFC, we took a sample and began to transfer it to the fermenter. We noticed a very distinct sour smell to the wort, so naturally we tasted it. A quite strong pronounced sour...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

425B6271-EF92-4904-9964-99F623E5E3DE by DHomebrews posted May 18, 2018 at 4:43 PM Here is how mine turned out. I used the same grain bill and just switched my hops a bit. I used equal parts citra, mosaic, and galaxy hops for whirlpool and dry hopping. I also added some denali to give it a...

Catalyst fermenter - time to bottle, I guess?

I have 2 Catalyst fermenters and have yet to see this issue. Usually the trub just collects in the jar. By any chance, is the valve not completely opened? I can't see the lever on the pictures to see if it is or not. It seems as though maybe the trub is stuck on top of the semi-closed...

What superstitions have snuck their way into your brewday?

Wait, you DON’T have any? The smell of milled grain and dank hops, some 80s big hair metal on the sound system, and Lady Gaga on your chest watching you brew... what a liberating experience. :D:rock: P.S. Have any good wine cooler recipes? :)
