    First brew

If you're using extract, don't add until 10-15 left in the boil. Haven't tried it but have read this should lead to a lighter color. Also, do a full wort boil. I learned this after finishing my first beer (ipa), which happens to be the same color as yours.

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

Upon further reflection, I also likely stirred too aggressively when cooling the wort thereby introducing oxygen too soon. Between the recipe and that...makes sense

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

Ok. Drew some. There's some fruit on the nose for sure. Also can tell this is quite boozy. There's also a some wet bread/ wet toast that's off putting. The fruit and booze are such that I can't say if there's some banana. Taste is lots of bread and mineral. With some of the fruity hops...

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

I should have researched it more. I'll draw another sample to look at it again. Fwiw, I dry hopped 5oz of Galaxy and Mosaic 2days prior and there is only slight hint of those on the nose. I'll report back on the smell after I pull another sample.

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

I used Conan from Gigayeast. I did 2x2.5 gallons w 1pk. Split the pack. 1/2 sat in the fridge in a sanitized mason jar for 2 weeks. I did a starter with it. It smelled bready but I figured that was normal - yeast after all. I steeped with 2-row (.75lb) and a little briefs cara pils...

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

I'll get it shortly. Maybe an early start of an infection? It's very bready-toasty. It's about 2 weeks.

Using wheat flour for that NE Haze

My experience (2nd beer ever): Bad idea. Maybe I did too much (1tsp middle or boil) or too soon but this wort now tastes like toast w/ tropical fruit added (mosaic, Citra, Galaxy fwiw). Should have done more research. Just wasted a bunch of good hops!

    First Beer - Newb (comments?)

2 weeks since bottling. Carbonation level is about perfect for me. Thought for sure I jacked that up. Light and fruity. A tad sweet. Consistent for what I expect from Conan. Tons of stuff going on at the nose. Very slight bitterness. Consistent with expectations from the...

    IPA hater wants to reform!

Was never wild about IPAs until I had Lagunitas Sucks. Liked it so much I bought a case. I never buy a case. Now I love IPAs...even stuff like Palate Wrecker (not recommend to you right yet). Sucks Sculpin Two-Hearted Odell IPA Yellow Rose Mosaic Promise (APA) Fresh Squeezed

Bottled on Friday. So almost 3 weeks fermenting. Noticed that krausen had dropped. Tested gravity. Dry hopped 4 days. Tested gravity again (no change). Bottled. I went straight from the bucket to the bottle. It seemed pretty flat when I tested the gravity - *maybe*less...

Awesome. Thanks for the tips. It is a small batch, so the more that makes it to the bottles, the better!

BTW thanks for all of the tips and comments. You've helped me for sure and made my first beer better than it would have been otherwise!

Sitting for a week. I noticed the temp in the water bath the bucket is sitting in was staying cool longer. So I thought I would check it with the hydrometer. 1.028. As a reminder, I didn't have the hydrometer on brew day. Will test again next weekend. I'm guessing I might...

    First Beer - Newb (comments?)

Brief update: Before I left this morning, I added the coldest tap water I could to the tub I am keeping the pale in. 68-69F is the best I could do (Texas is getting warm). It was to the same or slightly higher level than the wort in the pale. Checked it this evening. There were some...
