I just did a single hop batch with chinook. Its a hoppy pale ale as i like to put it. 5% abv 40 ibu and hopped with large amounts towards the end of boil and dry hopping. Keep the bitterness and specialty malts to a minimum and enjoy the flavor and aroma. That is typically what i do with one of...
I just realized my original gravity on the first brew was 1.01.. Looked at the wrong note so i guess whatever calculator i have is similar to beersmith. Now i would think an attenuation of 82% isnt impossible but what could i do in the future to get closer to my est. FG?
Thanks for the quick...
I just finished two small batches .8 gallons and .6 gallons and i noticed on both of them my final gravity was lower than the brew calculator predicted.
Recipe as follows
Est og 1.057 (i was spot on)
Est FG 1.016( I had 1.006)
Boil vol- 1.2 gallons
Batch vol- .8 gallons
1 lb light DME...
I was wondering if i steep base or roasted malts will i get the color and flavors from them. I know these malts need to be mashed to convert the sugars but i am doing extract so my fermentables are taken care of. Im thinking of using vienna and biscuit malts in later recipes but its pointless if...
Well guess what.... I figured it out. Never used a refractometer before and i didnt know there was a calculation to get abv. All i had was a chart showing brix to gravity. 16 starting brix or 1.066 and 9 ending brix or 1.033 on my chart. Confused the hell out of me. Operator error on my part...
Having a slight issue with my first small batch and was hoping someone with a little more experience could help me out. Brew info
Batch size 2.3 liters
Boil size 2.3 liters
1 lb light dme 60 min boil
Added about 40 oz at end of boil due to evap.
Problem
OG was suppost to be 1.086 and was 1.066...
So i just made a small batch brew last week(2.3 liters) and it is finished fermenting for the most part but my final gravity is very high 1.033. Original gravity was around 1.066 and i was expecting somewhere in the 1.012 range. The only thing i can think of that i did wrong was my boil size. I...
Just curious about what the brew community jams while they create what could be the next big brew. Personally I blast the black dahlia murder or something just down right evil. What's your poison?
So I just bottled a brown ale about a week ago and added priming sugar that the kit came with. Now I know that it calls for two weeks in bottles but my girlfriend and I were curious on how much carbonation does only a week produce. After opening one of my beers I noticed that the co2 level was...
I used 20' of 3/8 copper tubing and my Carboy dryer to mold the tube. I also hooked up to a fountain pump instead of my faucet. The fountain pump is submerged in ice water. Chills my batches in 10 min. Easy to make and would run you about the same or less as buying just the chiller
I can't access the recipe but I can tell you that the human tongue doesn't taste much above 100 ibu. Noting this it wouldn't hurt to reduce boil times or just plan discard a hop addition. The bittering of course. Aromas are always nice in large abundance. Just make sure it doesnt effect other...
I've got a brown in bottles right now. Turned out pretty sweet. Wasn't a big fan of browns either but this one isn't as sweet has a nice hop hit. It's always nice to find a palate for more beer styles. That's an Irish red in the Carboy by the way. Cheers
