Here’s the beer after it cleared up. It’s a nice pale ale but not much hops standing out since there was no dry hopping. Instead it’s pretty balanced which I like out of a pale ale but defeats the purpose of experimenting with horizon. I still have plenty of those hops left and plan to do the...
Lol so I finally kegged this on Sunday. FG was 1.013. My wife and I agreed that the sample was more citrus than floral and had a nice balance with the malt backbone.
If I had dry hopped like I originally planned it would be in IPA territory which isn’t a bad thing, but I haven’t ordered the...
Consensus seems to be that it is temp specific. If you dry hop cold (ie in a serving keg) you can leave the hops much longer than if dry hoping at conditioning temp.
Finally got to brew this one yesterday. not much I can say at this point. Horizon hops were kind of citrus and had a good aroma, should compliment centennial nicely. I added a bit more Munich to the recipe. OG was 1.052.
This is what I've come up with initially, debating whether to move one of the additions to whirlpool. I'm using about 1.5 oz of hops per gallon for a Pale Ale, you have some room to up your additions too.
Besides being a clean bittering hop, Horizon is described as floral and citrus with a pleasant aroma. I plan on using it 1:1 with another hop in a Pale Ale soon to see what it's like.
Whose had experience with this hop as a late addition?
I'm using distilled water already but the additions aren't matching up in any combination I try. Interesting you mention the chloride to sulfate ratio, it would make sense to me to go in the direction your saying since it is a malt forward beer. But of all the research i've done the target's I...
I'm playing around with my water software trying to hit the below targets for a Vienna Lager but can't seem to build it without going over on the sodium and sulfates.
Target Water Profile: ppm
Ca+2 - 27
Mg+2 - 15 (currently at 6.2)
Na+ - 20 (currently at 38.6)
Cl- - 15
SO4-2 - 60...
Slowly delving into water chemistry as the next subject I tackle in hombrewing.
I used brewer's friend water calculator for my IPA. Given the details below do the mineral additions provided make sense?
Belgian IPA (BIAB)
Distilled Water
Mash Vol: 4.2gal
Fermenter Vol 2.65
Malt
5 lb Belgian...
I have a new kettle valve https://www.anvilbrewing.com/product-p/anv-valve.htm that I'm trying to disassemble and clean. Instructions say to use two wrenches but I would swear that this is welded together and I can't unscrew it. I've tried with the handle in both positions and my last resort is...
I like the suggestions I'll go lighter on the hops maybe I'll focus more on the Hallertau and bring the abv closer to 8% too. I agree on the fermentation temp, I'll aim for the low 80's with 590 and see how it attenuates.
Will post pictures and results as it goes. I plan on brewing this...
I'm brewing a high ABV Winter Saison this weekend using WLP590 and wanted to share my recipe and post a few questions/comments.
-How fast does this yeast reach final gravity? I plan on priming it in the keg and allowing it to condition at ambient temp 70-75F as soon as it reaches FG...
