Weird, have you tried contacting them? I've had a ton of brews using mine without that issue. I did tear a little hole on the thermowell with some force, and they sent me a patch that helped fix it. To me, it's well worth the $30.

Can't speak to the negative customer service as I didn't experience any of that, but my 10 gallon BruGear kettle is still going strong after nearly 2 years. No rust, no issues with anything other than the logo being worn off a bit. Super tempted to order another vessel or two while they're on...

How often are you stirring? I'm wondering if more stirring would help with the temp difference at the wall versus the center?

I had an issue with these at one point, and from a suggestion on here I used teflon tape to help seal it up. Never done me wrong since I started doing that. Worth a try.
