Portland is home to FH Steinbart (and you should care why?) which is a wholesaler to many neighborhood home brew stores. They also have a local retail store, which is three times the size of any home brew stores I've shopped.
It you're semi-local they also offer periodic classes. I took one a few weeks ago and it was well worth the time and $$. I am now brewing more efficiently, with greater control and understanding of the process, and hence the results. Prost!
