2nd all grain batch - not so good

Ok, so I did an all grain Pale Ale today, I had high hopes at the start but things didn't go as planned! Starting out I just couldnt get my mash temp up above 150, no matter what I tried it was stuck at 146. Oh well, the wort tasted pretty sweet so I moved on. Next stuck sparge!!! Crap, it...

    First All Grain

So I just bottled my first all grain, I have only done partial mash before this. I must say WOW!! What a flavor difference from extract!! OK so I had a few trubby tasters, I was pretty pleased with the outcome! I actually upgraded my whole process; New Keggle, counterflow wort chiller, new mash...

Is going all grain worth it ?

I think partial mash is a great compromise, not much time / expense added to the overall process and it does give you the opportunity to shape the beer with the specialty grains and get a little more flavor control.

Is going all grain worth it ?

I actually did my first AG last week and it was really a lot of fun! I have brewed 3 extract batches so far (6 months into brewing so I'm a newbie) and I have noticed that all of the extract brews I have tasted- mine and others - all seem to have that same flavor, Not bad but just what I assume...

    F'd up with pool water

I just built a counter flow chiller last week and tried it out, it takes 212 degrees to 65 degrees in like 10 seconds! Cost me about $70 in materials but well worth it. The build instructions can be found on youtube - awesome!!

First time with ebay temp contoller..

I just put a temp controller on my chest freezer, which cools things down pretty fast when the compressor comes on. I am planning to tape the probe to the carboy so I can monitor it directly. I'm brewing tomorrow so I will give a try for the first time. Those yeasty beasties pushed my ferment...

    Centrifuge question

Has anyone used a centrifuge for filtration? If so what have you used? I have this Jack Lalanne juicer that I'm thinking might actually work pretty well..

    Lagering Questions

I actually use a chest freezer with a temp controller, the compressor doesn't need to stay on very long to maintain temperature.

    Overactive Fermentation

Nice!! I never use airlocks until after the first 7 days, I just blow it off into a 1 gallon Cider jar with some StarSan, I love the hops smell that fills the house for the first few days!
