Thanks guys yah I didnt feel there was anything wrong with the recipe even though a few were saying that. Its been a few days now and still no krausen, I am thinking that the temp that I steeped at was higher than what the thermometer was reading, I was using and infrared thermo. So I think...

LOL Krausen* Its in a 6 gallon glass carboy. Last batch that was successful had a 1-2 inch krauen for about 3 or 4 days but that was for a kit. This one was foaming about 1/4th an inch last night but cooled off to norm. Not sure what thats about.

Just brewed my first batch with grains. Messed up?

5 gallons is the desired out come, yah last time I just used a malt extract, and that worked out fine, so I didnt really think about the whole grains ordeal, I think I used like 5 pounds. I have read materials and watch some videos on how to brew as well, I guess I just misunderstood something lol.

Have a 5 gallon pot and brewed with straight grains, poured in to the carboy and only had one gallon of brew lol. Where did I screw up?? I put more water in the grains again and boiling more right now to get as much out as I can, can I just fill the rest with water?

Why do you guys recommend the nottingham? I was considering it but then decided to go with the windsor. I ordered some nottingham also now. Ill probably brew this twice and use the different yeast to see which one turns out better. Also, if I run 5 lbs of maris otter, in 5 gallons, will that...
