Fermentation is complete so i'll scoop off the nasty bits and sample a bit and see how she tastes. Luckily I have another 5 gallons sitting right next to her to compare against :)

I do believe that 2 x 3 gallon ball lock kegs will fit as they have the same diameter as their larger brother.

Yes, I do believe it would be possible. I know that others have done it and it requires patience and careful drilling so you don't drill through the coolant lines. It appears there would be enough internal clearance to route the lines and required connections assuming you can pry the top off...
