    I suspect an infecton

UPDATE: Kegged the stout last night, gave it a little bit of carbonation, and then left it at serving pressure. On the first taste, i was really happy. No weird off flavors. I don't think I had an infection. I do get a hint of a taste that i can only describe as, it tastes almost like the smell...

    I suspect an infecton

that's the thing, I'm not totally sure so I'm not going to just dump out something i put money, time, and care into. I need to be sure so, I'll keg it up let it sit a few days in the fridge and try one. If it is indeed spoiled, i'll dump it. Im not sure if it's yeast or bubble rafts, or some...

    I suspect an infecton

i think I'm going to rack to a keg tonight and keep it cold. As far as the boiling and such, couldn't you just run starsan through everything and clean it real well instead of replacing it all? Ill let you know what happens, i really want this batch to work out it was going to be so tasty. Idk...

    I suspect an infecton

My Stout is 3 weeks old and im starting to notice a few little white patches floating on the top. It started as one and now I noticed a second smaller one this morning. It smells pretty good but there is still something funky in the smell. Would it be wise to rack to the keg and age it in there...

Is this an infection or a case of bubble or yeast rafts?

That photo up there is just an example of what the SINGLE spot on the surface of my brew looked like. Its just one little white spot, not fuzzy or anything. I'll take a photo when I'm home from work if that will help. But it looks like almost like a flat white piece of something. almost how a...

Is this an infection or a case of bubble or yeast rafts?

My american stout is giving me a lot of questions. I went through a period where it had an awful smell, i determined that was the smells of fermentation and was proved right, because now it smells amazing. But yesterday I woke up and saw this little odd shaped white patch floating on the top of...

    Co2 Pressure Question

I am about to hook two kegs up to one tank, do i need to double my serving pressure to say 16 psi? or will the 8-10 psi do fine for both?

Weird Smell, anyone have experience with this?

I don't know, this stopper STUNK and the entire inside of the carboy smelled exactly like it. Now that I've swapped it out, the smell seems to be going away but it just generally seems to be balancing out all together. I think you're right, fermentation just produces some weird smells sometimes.

Weird Smell, anyone have experience with this?

So, my American stout is about 2 weeks into fermentation. The other day i went to make a small initial addition of 1 oz coffee beans, 1 oz, cacao nibs, and a vanilla bean. When i took the rubber stopper out of the carboy, i picked up an odd almost rubbery or plastic smell. The stopper i was...

Question about kegging in a Corny

I have 3 tanks, and a guage as well as beer gas and liquid lines! My dad hooked me up with his old tanks and such. The guys who sold me the kegerator with the tap and extra co2 tank told me i need to convert it to fit the ball lock keg. I didn't know what he meant, i assumed the lines would...

Question about kegging in a Corny

I am eager to keg two batches that I currently have fermenting. I have all of the stuff (i think) i need. This is a multi-part question: 1. Is kegging the beer as simple as racking from carboy to keg on top of my priming sugar solution? Should i transfer from carboy, to bucket, and then to keg...
