Temp too cold for lager fermentation start?

Thanks for the terminology clarification. I am using Breferm's lager yeast: http://www.brewferm.be/en/index.htm Optimum fermentation temp is 50-60f, so I guess it's too cold in my garage(40-55f). I keep the house between 57-63, so I think if I filled the downstairs bathroom tub with water...

Temp too cold for lager fermentation start?

OG before pitching(late Friday night) was 1.039. The kit says to OG should be 1.052-1.056 though before pitching. Current gravity on Monday night is 1.064. It doesn't list an FG. I know the new gravity number should be lower, so I would assume that because I took the OG reading at a higher...

Winemaking hardware same as beer brewing?

I have the middle home brew beer making kit: 1 primary, 1 seconday with spout, the bottling hardware, hydrometer, etc. My wife would like to try winemaking and I was just wondering if I needed anything extra for winemaking. I know the ingredients and process will be different, but that's what...

Temp too cold for lager fermentation start?

Yes, I'm brewing in a bucket. If I push even slightly on the top of the bucket I get lots of bubbles, so I think the lid is sealed pretty well. I will take an OG reading when I get home later today. I really can't tell you exactly how much yeast I used because it was just a packet. I would...

Temp too cold for lager fermentation start?

I got a kit in a box(don't judge) from the local brew depot for a lager since it's winter time and it's cold enough in my garage for lagering. It's similar to an Octoberfest beer. I'm in Atlanta. I've done several ales successfully, but this is my first lager. I followed all the initial boil...

Do I like hoppy or malty?

I tend not to like the strong taste of most ales. I can usually only drink 1 pint and and am usually disliking the taste quite a bit about 3/4 done. I do appreciate these beers and wished I liked them because there is such a wide range of flavors. I like just about every lager and most bocks...

Juice fermenting guidlines: are there any?

The wife LOVES mimosas, I could save a lot of money with that one. Can you be more specific with what you did?

I really don't know what I was trying to make, I was just traying to say would be made if I played with stuff. Thanks for the grape mead idea. I think I'm going to try that :mug: Craig

Juice fermenting guidlines: are there any?

I just started brewing beer at the house and waiting(impatiently) to bottle. I wanted to play around with fermenting juice. I’m not really trying to make anything specific, I just want to see what this stuff tastes like. I’ve read quite a bit different posts on the board about the...
