    SMaSH Recipe Feedback

Oh that's good. I was worried I was going overboard with the hop additions since other similar recipes I found were using 3oz for a 5gal batch when I'm using 3oz for a 2.5gal batch... but it's a lot of 5min, flameout, dry hop so I was hoping it wouldn't be unbalanced.

    SMaSH Recipe Feedback

Hey Guys, I've never made a SMaSH before but I figured I'd give it a try. I kind of modeled this from an APA I enjoy brewing (OG, IBU, ABV) but I'm not sure if this makes sense. I do BIAB 10L (3gal) batches. What do you guys think? SMaSH! APA American Pale Ale Recipe Specs ----------------...

First NEIPA on my BIAB System

That description sounds like exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Now all I have to do is figure out how to minimize oxygen exposure when I don't have a keg system... Bottling while trying to reduce O2 is going to be hard. I'm thinking that I'll pour my disolved priming-sugar-in-water...

First NEIPA on my BIAB System

I'm not familar with Treehouse or Trillium (not sure if we can get them where I am in Canada), but so far the NEIPAs that I've really enjoyed have had a thick, cloudy appearance, a bright colour kinda like orange juice with a soft mouthfeel. That's the kind of thing I'm going for. I checked out...

First NEIPA on my BIAB System

So I'm looking to brew my very first NEIPA, a style that I've really grown to love from local craft breweries over the last year. I gathered together 10 NEIPA recipes I found online, trying to find out what they have in common. After messing around with notepads on my kitchen table I realized...

Not-Quite-Average NEIPA - Looking for feedback

    Help crafting an IPA

... Great! Yeah, if I cut it down to 10g the official calc for bitterness drops to 55IBU but you're right that there will be *some* bitterness from the late additions. Sounds like we've got a recipe! I'll be sure to let you guys know how it turns out. I'll prep and measure today, brew...

    Help crafting an IPA

Alright, here's experiment #1, no Willamette, moved Centennial to flame-out. That brings the IBUs down out of the stratosphere and evens things out. IPA Experiment American IPA Recipe Specs ---------------- Batch Size (L): 10.0 Total Grain (kg): 2.597 Total Hops (g)...

    Help crafting an IPA

Alright, I moved the Centennial 13.5% to Dry Hop instead of Bittering - that drops the IBU into the 60-70 range and brings it closer to the amount of dry hops that mredge was talking about IPA Experiment 2 American IPA Recipe Specs ---------------- Batch Size (L): 10.0 Total...

    Help crafting an IPA

I hadn't seen mredge's post, so in light of that I made some changes. I don't have a huge amount of Centennial (I've got a small amount of 13.5% AA and some 10.1%AA) so I did what I could with it. How's this? IPA Experiment 2 American IPA Recipe Specs ---------------- Batch Size (L)...

    Help crafting an IPA

Okay, how about this? I'm doing 2.5gal (10L) Brew-in-a-bag. I used all my leftover Centennial and Chinook for bittering, then split my Amarillo, Citra and Willamette across 10min, 0min and Dry Hop. I don't have any carapils around, and the recipe Redtab linked had some Crystal in it so I threw...

    Help crafting an IPA

I've been brewing (BIAB-style, all grain) for about a year now. Generally I've made Irish Reds, Belgian Wits, and the occasional seasonal like a Pumpkin Ale or a Cherry Chocolate Stout for Christmas. Lately I really got into drinking IPAs once I realized that they don't have to be giant...

    Fun with Wheat!

What about a hop bill like this, should give 36.5IBU. I added 5g to my Willamette bittering charge at 60min, then I took 5g off each of my Aroma/Steep hops and moved it to the 10min instead to get a bit of IBU out of it Hop Bill ---------------- 20.0 g Willamette Pellet (6% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes...

    Fun with Wheat!

Someone in the other thread commented that I've got a ridiculous amount of Crystal malt in there, and he's right. I went a little nuts trying to get rid of leftover grains and ended up with like 16% Crystal/Caramunich. Sadly I crushed the grain last night so... It looks like you can balance the...

    Fun with Wheat!

Actually... crap. I forgot that I crushed all the grain last night, so I'm stuck with that. So... time to balance! It looks like you can balance the sweetness of a ridiculous amount of Crystal by upping the hops and playing with your water profile. Something like this guy did...
