    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I started a blueberry-vanilla variant in May, and I'm (impatiently) waiting for it to clear. Just a few more months, right? ;)

That's actually a fantastic idea. Thank you!!

I've tried the combo in oatmeal, and I like it, too. I'm pretty new to brewing, though, and I didn't want to throw too much into the carboy without having a baseline. I'll start simple, then get more complex.

Eliminated it. Just blueberries and vanilla for this one. If it needs more spice, I'll throw a clove into the next batch.

    Show Us Your Label

Simple, but I'm obsessed with them. New labels for my basement winery, hand-drawn by my sister. :)

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Well please keep us posted! I'd love to know how it turns out. I racked my mead into another carboy and let it settle for another week or two to reduce the chances of getting sediment in my bottles. If that's not an option for you, just be careful not to disturb the fallen fruit. Good luck!

Peppercorns? That'll be interesting. I guess they're not too unlike clove. Have you used peppercorns in brewing before?

    World Vineyard Pink Moscato Kit

My husband was struggling to come up with a b-day gift for me, but fortunately for him (and me!), I stumbled upon this beauty: http://labelpeelers.com/wine-making/wine-kits/limited-edition-wines/world-vineyard-pink-moscato/ It's a limited release (should be shipping by next week) and...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I checked my logbook, and I added 6 tsp. It smells like blueberry pie filling! We used new honey, so I'm not really sure what was different about it versus the first batch. But I know the yeast will get to it. :) We bottled our 6 gallon of traditional JAO yesterday as well. I loved it...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I started a blueberry vanilla variant of JAO. 6 gallons with 1lb frozen blueberries per gallon and 6 tsp (or was it tablespoons...) of vanilla extract. Here it is when it first started fermenting. We've since topped it off with water, and it's going strong. It did something weird, though...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

My 6 gallon cleared after 3 months and the fruit never fell. My 1 gallons cleared in 2 months and, again, the fruit didn't fall. I'm learning that the time it takes for this recipe to clear is a "your mileage may vary" guesstimate. I doubt racking will hurt it, but I think you could just as...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Just pitched my grapefruit variant of JAOM last night, and took a picture this morning. I got rid of all the pith, so hopefully it won't be too bitter with just the peel and the fruit. It always amazes me how fast the bread yeast gets to work!

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Omg, I love Meijer! (Or Meijers, because I'm a MI native and add an extra 's' to everything.) Anyway, that juice you found should work. I just started my apfelwein last night, and the yeast had already started working by this morning. :) Edit: Here's a pic.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Geez, I knew Whole Foods was pricey, but that's just ridiculous. I bought store brand (Wegman's, to be specific - it's a local store here in the Northeast) for $5 per gallon. Nothing fancy about it - just apple juice and vitamin C.
