Here's what I did over a year ago, which I corrected for a 5 gal batch:
07% Carafa Special -- the de-husked version ;o)
07% Flaked Oats
86% Maris Otter
WLP001
10 min Falconer's Flight 1 oz
15 min Falconer's Flight 1 oz
20 min Falconer's Flight 1 oz
25 min Falconer's Flight 1 oz...
Hey there, I made a Black IPA last year when Nighttime Ale came out (without my knowledge). Friends liked my Black IPA. I discovered Nighttime soon after it was released and thought, wow, this is great and similar. Lagunitas makes the better of the bunch, to me, because the blackness of the IPA...
Hi, do you have a picture of your marked or etched 3 gallon glass carboy? I have two from Northern Brewer. I didn't label mine and they're currently filled, don't want to spend all the extra cash to get another one shipped quick (brew schedule so can't wait too long) so I can determine water...
One week later, took a sample and by the way WLP041 already has it down to 1.016 from 1.066 -- anyway. Immediately, big aroma of malts and hops and then as that goes away it's as if I'm looking for it... I'm looking for that chlorophenol flavor and aroma and I'm just not sure if it's there. I do...
Cool, cool. I won't dump it. I will try to remember to update this thread when the time comes :-) I use San Francisco tap water, by the way. This should be a good reference for others. Thanks for the replies all
Oops. I treated my tap water without campden tablets before the mash. I mixed in some during post-mash and pre-boil. I then mixed in some for sparge and top-off. It's a Black IPA with WLP041. Is it ruined? I did this yesterday and already it's happily fermenting away.
Awesome. I have an accurate enough answer to carbonate appropriately. The circumference of the widest section is about 34" and the height from the top of the trub to the bottom of the krausen is almost 7.5" so I figured: pi*(34/2*pi))^2*7.5 and this results in 689.936678 cubic inches. 1 cubic...
Oops, I forgot to mark my 5 gal glass carboy. Do you have a 5 gal glass carboy? How much wort is in mine? It's between the second and third ridge there. I'm guessing it's between 2.5 and 3.5 gallons. However, I need a tighter range so when it's time to carb, I don't under- or over-carb...
