Luckily, I will be kegging mine. That will cut down on possible bottle bombs, and there wont be yeast involved at all. The tricky part for me will be not to drink 5+ glasses of root beer per day!
I have nothing to add to this thread, other than I just bought the Gnome Root Beer kit at my LHBS about a week ago for the exact same reason. Plus I love me a good root beer, so hopefully it turns out awesome! Keep us posted!
It's a great hobby to get into! I spent all last weekend rearranging my garage to accomodate the kegerator, so hopefully I'll get a chance to get another batch going soon to fill it up! I'm sure your son will be hooked like the rest of us after this weekend!
